What Car - Car of the Year 2023
Discussion
Does this award really mean anything? It's all marketing bumph I know; but should it be more transparent if it's essentially a paid advertisement?
Car of the Year 2023: VW ID.Buzz.
That's right, a £60,000 van with terrible infotainment system, compromised seat layout and boot arrangement (because it's a van), horrendous efficiency (because...) and absolutely nothing to offer in terms of pushing the envelope. A 77kW battery good for 200-ish miles (or as little as 158 motorway miles). Very average charging speeds.
What Car have a video on 5 of the reasons why it won their coveted award. YouTube Comments are turned off, obviously. Their reasoning:
1. Enormous Boot (it's a f*cking VAN!)
2. Practical interior (aaaaargh!)
3. Great Ride and Handling - really; great? Yes, because the battery is really low and therefore the centre of gravity blah blah blah - just like almost every BEV then?
4. Fantastic Resale Values - what's this based on? A whim and a prayer? A prediction? Oh and it's cheaper to run than a petrol car. With caveats.
5. Brilliant Safety Features - literally has the bare minimum required for the latest Euro NCAP test.
How much do you think VW paid?
Previous winners include:
2022: Kia EV6 - understandable, it's at the very least "different" and unquestionably the best Kia we've seen to-date
2020: Ford Puma - Fairy nuff
2019: Kia E-Niro
2018: Volvo XC40
2017: BMW 520d SE
2016: Audi A4 3.0 TDi
