I live in Scotland and our only drag strip is an old listed ex RAF base at Crail on the East coast. It isn't perfect (they cannot resurface, have noise issues with local residents etc) but it is the best/only strip we have available.

I run a small-ish car club and love the idea of having a runway to use for a spot of filming/drag and roll racing etc. Is there such a place in the UK you can hire for the day now Bruntingthorpe have stopped doing this? Would be happy to travel for a decent location.

From a search online, it looks like there isn't many places however you see YouTube channels such as Official Gassed etc which regularly runs 'drag battles' on a small airstrip, albeit I have no idea where that is to ask re hire.

Any help appreciated.

Elvington run car days. Last time I flew down that way I had to divert to Leeds East (bad planning, I know!) because the runway was closed to aircraft due to some car thing going on.

The former RAF seighford near Stafford is used for trackdays and can be hired out.

Deenethorpe Airfield, a lot of youtubers seem to use this airfield. The surface isn't the best but it is workable.

Many many years ago Craig Raceway / Thrash held a couple of events at Edzell. I think that stopped when somebody set fire to a big stack of hay bales. It was never mentioned again and I e no idea what the situation is up there now but assuming it's not a housing estate, maybe worth investigating?

There's also East Fortune, they hold bike events and have done supercar days previously but again, no idea what the situation is regarding private hire or access. Though on that note, Crail has quite a bit of runway area away from the main strip... including the "track" so perhaps worth asking about hiring a section?

That's interesting, I never knew that. Looking at Edzell on Google Maps shows it to be littered with shipping containers so I doubt that'll be suitable.

Never thought of East Fortune, the runway seems longer than Crail's too which is decent. I'll ping them an email and see what's what. Thanks smile

Most of the events run on airfield locations in the UK currently are with Straightliners, they have permission and insurance to run events on almost every one.
Your best bet by far will be to contact Trevor Duckworth for a chat, even if you don't use one of their events he'll be able to give you info /advice.

If you want a private day for 10 cars say you can also self hire Curborough sprint track via the local club, might be a touch too far though for you guys.

Thanks mate, will give them a shout.

We hire Knockhill for track stuff and have a few hillclimb places available to us too, was just hoping to run some straight line stuff for fun. Curborough looks cool though thumbup
