For those who can’t see the video, people are stood on the edge of the road at a roundabout. Enter stage right, a badly modified blue mk1 mx5 attempts to perform a doughnut at the roundabout, gets a tiny bit sideways on exit, has an armful of lock, lifts off, car veers left into small crowd.
Location: https://goo.gl/maps/xh3SiELXvFypd15EA (Copnor, Portsmouth). In the middle of an industrial estate.

I do think you should have limited power available to you until you are 21 or been driving for 4 years. Wait until they start hitting EVs with those acceleration stats
Not sure power was the issue here. Inexperience, the risk awareness of most 17 year olds, bravado and a crowd… could have a done the same in a 1.0 Polo.Yodafone said:

I don’t have FB but can watch it. It’s a PH favourite. MX5!p4cks said:

17 year old first time driver insured properly to drive an MX5 with modifications, seems VERY unlikely. But it is his problem now.
Anyway, this is one thing that really annoys me about MX5s. Had a number of people ask me questions about drifting...I tell them, it is probably the worst possible car you could buy for drifting, short wheelbase/ low powered, despite the belief of some that they are some sort of drift weapon once on coilovers and wide wheels.
Not trying to over hype the handling of mine, but I literally cannot imagine the sort of speed you'd have to be going to actually slide it in a controlled manner, more so on a public road.

Unlikely IMO, this looks like the usual 'lift-off at full power in first gear' oversteer event when combining old school rear wheel drive + inexperienced driver. As for the EV comment, unlike an ICE with gearbox, I very much doubt any EV will give access to full power at roundabout speeds, as it's impossible for the motor to be spinning fast enough when there is only a fixed final drive ratio between the motor/s and the driven wheels and no multi-ratio gearbox and/or clutch.
