Hello,

I'm looking at a car for sale privately which has been modified (about 33% more power than standard, and non OEM suspension). Assuming the seller is happy to let me drive it if I am insured, are there any options for short term Insurance if the car is modified? Aviva's policy wording on DayInsure specifically prohibits this, and I didn't find the policy wording on the other sites I had a quick look at.

I'll give Adrian Flux a call tmw to ask if they do it, but thought there might be people on here who've been in the same situation. Thanks!

Worst comes to worst, take out a full policy with whoever, and cancel within the cooling off period, if it is not for you.

Did this once on a car I didn't buy with an insurer that I won't name and over small chat gave a sob story about how I had travelled 150 miles to view and it wasn't as described and they waived the fee, so cost me nothing. I'm not a freeloader, but was a nice gesture by them.

You would probably be fine but just for full disclosure, if you took the one year policy and did have to make a claim (where you are deemed at least partially at fault) you’ll owe the full years insurance.

Unlikely to be an issue admittedly as I doubt you’ll need to but worth being aware of up front.

I would have thought that no temp insurance cover would cover anything modified.

I've looked for this before and not found it, imports too. I bought my RX-7 on the strength of a passenger ride with the seller. When I sold it, the buyer actually had bought 12 months insurance before the final deal, so he did get a quick test drive before handing over the cash.

BTW I love the usernamesmile

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I’ll have a look at the full policy idea - it’s a good idea to know what I’d be letting myself in for anyway! Cheers.
