You can just change the address, cancelling the policy is bad advice from the broker, as you will be hit with cancellation penalties.

Just ask them to put through a change of address. Premium may change and they will probably charge a fee….but you will retain the bonus

I feel like I’m not actually doing anything wrong here but apparently the address registered on the insurance HAS to match your driving licence and logbook and if you keep the car at a different address you need something called a “dual postcode policy”. I’ve never heard of this before.
This sounds like nonsense (or I have got lucky for years and a couple of insurance claims...) My car registrations and driving licence are at my mums address, but they are insured at the address I live at and are usually kept.

Actually, I believe they are giving you the chance to cancel the insurance of your own volition to help you.

If THEY cancel it, you will have to declare on all future insurance comparison quotes that you've had a policy cancelled or voided. frown

It would've been good if they'd explained that to the OP. Perhaps they did.

I understand that. But I don’t actually understand what I’ve done wrong. Apparently you have 2 address on your insurance - the address where you “live” and and the address the car is kept. This is the first I’m hearing of this. Just need to make sure I’m in the wrong before I go ahead and cancel

I have asked but the people I’m insured with (Pukka) will not cover me to be insured in the postcode of my registered address - apparently anyway according to my broker. I have not spoken to my insurer firsthand in the fear that by doing so they automatically cancel my policy

Change the address on your v5 and licence to be actually where you live?

This isn’t my permanent address. My situation is complicated but I do not want to register myself to this address.

It’s pretty straightforward- you are asked for your name and address and then asked where the car is kept overnight. Every policy I’ve had for the last 35 years has been the same.

I certainly was not asked otherwise I wouldn’t be in this position. I was even advised by the broker to use the address where my car is kept the most, being my girlfriends house

My son passed his test and bought a car shortly before he set off for Uni.
It is registered and insured at our home address but as a student he spends a long time away from home obviously.

Recently his insurance contacted him and demanded a further sizeable payment forthwith as the car is not being kept at the home address.

They must have used the Black Box to find this out.

We’ve simply paid up as I don’t want him having any insurance issues as a new driver.
