Bugatti Chiron Profilee smashes auction estimate

Unique Chiron becomes most valuable new car ever at sold at auction

There was always going to be a lot of excitement around the Chiron Profilée; all the other Chirons are spoken for, and which billionaire wouldn’t want a unique preview of what sounded like the best Bugatti? Take a Pur Sport, tone it down just a tad, paint it a spectacular two-tone of Argent Atlantique/Bugatti Bleu Royal et voila - another hypercar icon. No wonder so many wanted to buy one having been introduced to the idea.

Just the one Profilée was made, though, and it’s gone under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s Paris auction for, well, almost 10 million euros. €9,792,500, to be exact, including the buyer’s premium. Not only is that more than double the pre-auction low estimate of €4.2m, but the Chiron has now become the most valuable new car ever sold at auction. Predictably enough, it’s one of the priciest Bugattis sold this way, too. RM sold the Chiron after an ‘extended bidding contest’ in the room, on the phone and over the internet, with a percentage of the proceeds going to charitable causes. So a good day for them, too.

Obviously, the identity of the successful bidder hasn’t been disclosed; given the significance of this Bugatti - to say nothing of its value - the Chiron seems unlikely to be seen anywhere other than perfectly manicured lawns for the foreseeable. A pity given how spectacular it looks, if understandable - let’s see. And if the Profilée has you also in the mood for an 8.0-litre, quad-turbo, W16 Bugatti, this Veyron is available for little more than a tenth of that hammer price. A million quid would barely put a dent in a good rollover win - don’t say we never do sensible consumer advice…

Car companies have become expert at taking people's money for less and less effort. Case in point.

If people want to spend their money (assuming it’s actually theirs and not stolen from some country’s people) then it would be rude not to offer them the opportunity.

The irony of all this is that Bugatti seem to have grossly underpriced the car...

Nothing more than an over priced trinket for a billionaire to show off to his/her friends.

Probably be listed again on collecting cars in a few weeks time, that seems to be the story with most new cars now......

Watched this ‘live’ online last night.

The auctioneer kept repeating that this was a one of one etc etc.

The person that bought it was a phone bidder and every now and then rounded the number up to the nearest million whereas the bidder in the room was going up in €100k or even €50k steps. Think the person how finally won the auction was going to get it no matter how high it went!

Lots of misery on here about this car, I'm glad cars like this exist, even if I will never be able to afford one.

the Chiron is probably the best petrol car ever made and with everything going to hybrids then EV it will probably remain that way

I like it and can't stand Dubai. Does the North Norfolk Coast count?

Is it really worth that much more than a "regular" Chiron just because it has two tone paint?
