Now I’m not saying it would be easy to engineer, and yes some switches and dials would either need re-labelling or would show the wrong function, but……..

Imagine if there was an option to have George or Lewis’s steering wheel (an actual race worn one not a replica) as your Hypercars steering wheel!

Imagine the exclusivity, sheer coolness factor, not forgetting the amount they could charge for the option.

Not just Mercedes either, but AM with they Valkyrie, the next Ferrari Hypercar, the RB car. Just imagine being the first to release such a thing.

It always surprises when I see switchgear from a lower model on a hypercar. I know its only switchgear and it does a good job, but for that price the whole thing should be exclusive.

Where would the airbag go? They're a legal requirement IIRC.

That’s pretty simple, the car is shipped with the normal wheel, but is quick-release. Once the car detects the F1 wheel, it disables the wheel airbag in the ECU.

For manufacturing yes. Might not be illegal to change it afterwards though, by the dealer. Just like the Fiesta ST had a Mountune pack, most of which was flashing the engine management memory. It made the CO2 figure higher, but as it was technically done after the vehicle was sold, the manufacturers had no responsibility for it.

It would be an amazing option and just think of how much they could charge!

Seriously think how much a George and a Lewis version would go for as a 1 of 1 with their steering wheel in the car.

They're often lifed, replaced every race (think of the amount of times glitches are fixed by a wheel swap in pitstops) - and the dials and knobs would be a hazard for most people catching them by accident - and it's not like they're made with 96 different damping oils and greases for feedback and 'quality' feel like most normal cars. They're what most reviewers would exclaim as feeling 'cheap and nasty'

I suspect LH's contract excludes this type of thing, but I think a better optional upgrade would be a track day with the pair of them.

The kind of people who buy these cars probably don't care or can just ask them anyway.

Maybe in the roof above the windscreen, like the passenger side on a Citroen Cactus? https://www.zf.com/products/en/cars/stories/airbag...
