After market Car warranties
Discussion
I'd save the money per month, they often have a limit and will try and get out of everything anyway.
Recent quote for me on a transporter T6 was £56 a month, that covered £50 per hour labour and up to £1000 repair, that was with a £100 excess.
I'd sooner save the £56 per month towards any repairs at a good indy

I was looking at this recently and warranty wise came out with half decent reviews. However, reading the negativity here perhaps I’ll rethink.
Only experience I’ve had in the past was the AA part contribution style one which was ok.
Got bitten with my self-insure formula a few months back when a car lunched its engine so keen to avoid a repeat.

Not worth the paper it's written on. I took out a so called platinum RAC warranty complete and utter waste of money stupidly I didn't do my research into it before agreeing. Within a year of owning the car had a fault which is a well known manufacturer fault even the garage I took it too argued with RAC it wasn't a wear and tear item and they was having none of it. Also beware most of the approved garages they reccomend really don't like doing the work because of the hassle it is to contact these companies and arrange payments and go ahead for the work to be done.
The only extended warranty I would consider buying would be the manufacturer ones (and they are all regulated insurance products). I recently took out the VW warranty on the Bussat as it's now 3 years old. I had to book an appointment with my local dealer for an inspection before it was covered.
If you buy from a standalone company, you only have them to complain to. With a manufacturer warranty, you can also bring the brand into the complaint. The stories on here from aftermarket companies are horrific, especially the BMW M5 one. Doesn't matter how much they big themselves up or use motoring zelebs to promote, they are universally crap.

As everyone else has said, I wouldn’t bother. I’d save your own contingency fund.
The third party one that came with a used car I bought sounded pretty comprehensive until I tried to use it. They wriggled out of a claim saying that the exact part at fault wasn’t covered because it was it named explicitly. The descriptions of parts covered sounded good but were vague enough to give them a get out clause.
I did have much joy with BMW’s insured warranty either. Their stance almost straight away was to find ground to reject the claim.

I've known several people who bought used car warranties only to find they weren't worth the paper they were written on.
My immediate neighbour of the time had an auto gearbox failure on his Audi 100, the warranty paid out, however hidden in the small print was a max amount payable per claim, a figure near enough the premium paid, ie 1/4 the repair cost.
Most other claims i personally know of were weaseled out of, tends to be cheaper repairs which get authorised.

Apart from the annoyance of warranty companies never paying out I would also ask you how much your time is worth to you. If you’re retired and bored and don’t mind spending countless hours writing emails, phoning people and generally wasting time chasing and arguing then a warranty is just the thing for you. Personally, I have better things to do and would prefer to sort things out myself (using the money I’ve put aside every year into my borkage fund).
My only experience of using an aftermarket warranty was when I bought a policy with WarrantyDirect and the gear selector fork on my Mondeo snapped, preventing me from using 5th gear. They paid out without any issue as per their policy (think it was 80% of bill due to mileage) and I think the whole thing was turned around within a week. Pretty positive experience, but I seem to be in the minority.
If you're looking at them, read all the small print about what is and isn't covered. Even the approved used "manufacturer" ones have a load of exclusions as they are basically an insurance policy, but the cover level is generally better. If you want peace of mind warranty cover, you'll need to buy a car with the manufacturer cover still in place, and even then it's only for manufacturing defects.
