Cracked glass on SL500 hardtop
Discussion
Hi all, hoping someone can give some direction on this...
R129 SL500 with the factory hardtop. I never use the top and so it has hung on the back wall of the garage for the past 5 years. Trouble is, the garage it was in was tight so I had to nudge up to the hardtop every time I parked the car. After needing to move it to a new garage I found this...

The bumper had been kissing up against the bottom of the glass which was clearly too much for it.
Now, on one hand I'm really annoyed with myself for doing this and should have realised it would get damaged. (It was pristine when I hung it on the wall initially). On the other hand, as I never use it should I be that bothered?
So my questions/actions are these:
1. See if my insurance covers it under windscreen repair. Has anyone else had experience of this? Would it be covered?
2. Is the glass even repairable? Its a heated screen also so I have no idea whether it can be replaced.
3. Buy a new top and get it resprayed to match?
4. Leave as is and deal with it if I ever come to sell it?
Any/all thoughts welcome.
Gratuitous shot with hardtop on when I bought it.

£1300ish for the glass, not untypical.
For a likely easier route, I would go via the (approved) windscreen company in the first instance, not your insurance. Your insurers will probably try and push that as accident damage rather than glass cover, because it will suit them to.
As always, it'll depend on the specifics of the policy wording, which none of us can help you with yet.
(edit, 1300, not 300)
