I have recently been involved in a non fault accident were another driver has hit me and is not my fault, my car has been written off by my insurance and they were going to pay me out for my car then seek the money back off the third party. They have reviewed the pictures of my car and noticed I have had the roof sprayed black and the back lights tinted (illegally) they have now sent it to the policy analysis team and are saying my insurance is void and claim cancelled. I have phoned the third party insurance and told them Im dealing with the claim on my behalf directly with them they said they need to get their engineer team to review the car to give me a valuation. Am I just going to get mugged of by there evaluation team because my car has illegal lights etc or do they have to pay (as the lights on the car were tinted at the back and he went into me head on + he has also already admitted liability) I’m £13500 out of pocket and have no clue if his insurance is going to pay me

I wonder why he didn’t see you from behind, with your illegally tinted rear lights. /s

Hopefully you learn your lesson and don’t void your insurance next time.

If this is all true then sadly it's a short sharp lesson in why you don't mess around with illegal modifications and you do ensure that you make every effort to have proper insurance, having declared the modifications you do have.

I wish you all the best in getting sorted with the least amount of financial pain.

If the TP accepts it is their liability, then they should pay out.
Your own insurer just won't be helping you... and it would appear you now have a vehicle without insurance. You need to get that insured (or SORN'd) which might be costly now you have had insurance cancelled/voided.

So are you chaps suggesting these threads are started by school children on the half term break or bored teachers?

This. Third one, I think?

Edit: my mistake. There’s this one:

And this one, which is about an undeclared SP30;

It was a head on collision. Rear lights tinted or not wouldn’t have had a material affect on the incident or liability.

If the third party is at fault, you can go to the third party insurer directly to settle your claim. They will settle it despite your modifications.

There’s no contract between you and the TP insurer. All they have to do is put you in the position you were in before the accident ie having an undamaged car with a st black roof.
