Getting parts these days
Discussion
So after leaving my FK8 parked in a SW London street for a couple of hours I return to find some scrote has hit the rear drivers quarter hard enough to displace the back wheel by about 5" and leave it about 30deg turned in. Destroyed most of that corners suspension including the lower arm
Nothing to indicate their guilt , though the impact must have been very noticeable even to an artic or Bus. Just driven on leaving me to come back to an immobilised Honda.
So £550 of excess to pay, stranded awaiting recovery for 8 hours and now the cherry on the top - The body shop has been told Honda can't supply some of the parts until March 7th or so !!!!! a month ???
Is this typical? Anyone else facing losing their car for 5-6 weeks for a repair.
Pissed Off doesn't begin to describe it

I know your pain!
I have a bodyshop, my daily phone calls to parts depts will have the words ‘back order’ in there somewhere.
To name a few:
I’ve been waiting since September for a power steering pump for a Vivaro van, still no eta.
2 months wait on a Yaris door which had to be paid for up front then to find out it was obsolete.
3 weeks for a 3/4 panel for an a3 (first one was in stock but arrived damaged despite ‘Checked’ sticker next to the damage, then went on back order)
2 weeks in so far for an under tray for a Range Rover.
Some of these orders are 3-4K which has to be paid up front for special order parts. It soon impacts cash flow when there’s a row of cars with parts missing waiting to go back together!
Frustrating part for us is we obtain parts prices, produce an estimate, get the car in. It’s only once the order is placed we find out a part is missing.

Honda has pretty much shut up shop in the UK due to Brexit and stores most of parts in France anyway. Horrible problems with the border and most car companies not caring about the UK because the £ is so weak no one can afford new cars and you wonder why you can't get parts. You're a very small bacteria living inside a very small fish in a very big pond to Honda.
If you want it faster go to France and pick it up yourself. Otherwise go complain to your local MP but you know how that will go.
March 7th, while pretty bad by old standards is rather good for current standards.

The irony being that this car was built in Swindon, though no idea if any of the suspension components were made elsewhere. If you want it faster go to France and pick it up yourself. Otherwise go complain to your local MP but you know how that will go.

No sitting on the fence for me, brexit was madness, but the general state of supply in the motor industry is shocking.
But its been like this for a few years - surely the supply chain should of adjusted by now , this is nonsense.

Brexit? How very dare you mention that. No sitting on the fence for me, brexit was madness, but the general state of supply in the motor industry is shocking.

Aren't you aware that the govt. has outlawed use of that word in govt./Whitehall circles. It's all been dealt with and we've moved on. Any problems now are caused by worldwide issues and we're fortunate that we are in such a strong a fiscal position (a mere £2,500,000,000 in debt) that we can buy our way out of any such externally-caused problems.
These non-Brexit related world problems are causing supply issues for all car manufacturers, not just Honda, but just remember, if you can't buy tomatoes, just eat turnips. That's the latest official govt. public reassurance policy.

I work for Skoda and parts supply just lately is truly shocking, We have a customer with a 67 plate Octavia VRS that needs a new N/S/F door glass, its currently not available due to be sourced in Russia. so its basically obsolete
You see this is a ridiculous and unacceptable position and I'm amazed that manufacturers are not finding ways round this more quickly. There seems to be an inertia and lack of will to get alternatives up and running. I get that, initially, covid and mad Vlad have screwed up some arrangements but honestly how long does it take to get some alternatives in place.
I suspect the willingness to get on with it is tempered by supply/demand equation giving inflated revenues across the industry but its pretty piss poor customer service.
A colleague’s Mazda 6 wagon was sideswiped by a truck last year and was off the road awaiting parts for over 6 months… Seems to be becoming the norm.
3 months wait for a replacement front bumper for a Forester is another example.
Maybe the manufacturers are happier with using parts for building new cars, and aren’t in a hurry to supply the after-sales market?

No it isn't. As usual with media, it was taking a reply out of context as 'click bait,' it was to somebody suggesting British should eat more seasonal stuff, and that if they did, that's all that would be available if we didn't import veg:Responding to a question from a fellow Tory MP about eating seasonal products, Ms Coffey said: "It's important to make sure that we cherish the specialisms that we have in this country.
"A lot of people would be eating turnips right now rather than thinking necessarily about aspects of lettuce and tomatoes and similar, but I'm conscious that consumers want a year-round choice and that is what our supermarkets, food producers and growers around the world try to satisfy."

But for something like glass they'd have to pay for someone to tool up to produce them. How many do they think they need? Presumably the number is small enough that they'd either never pay off the upfront investment or they'd have to charge an insane amount per item. (I get hacked off hearing pointless govt advice / statements of the bl**din' obvious, ie. turning appliances off, or down, save energy, which in turn saves money. I'd managed to work that out for myself by the time I was 95 )
