Aussie rules with 400hp Spartan track car

Honda-powered, up to 400hp and, yep, it's road-legal. Speak to LMC if you want one before they're gone...

With the various classic GT40 and Shelby re-imaginings it already retails, you may have heard of Le Mans Coupes (LMC). Now it’s time for something new to add to the list. The dealer has just announced it’s importing a road-legal track car to the UK called the Spartan. This is a product of good ol’ Aussie engineering, thanks to two Sydney-based twins, Nick and Peter Pap.

The Spartan’s spec is certainly spartan in respect of its weight. It looks the dog’s whatnots with its ‘60s-style carbon fibre bodywork (glass fibre is available at a reduced cost) and the panels weigh just 20kg. Those are wrapped over a tubular steel spaceframe, which, we’re told, exceeds the FIA safety requirements. It means that a Spartan can weigh as little as 670kg, depending on spec.

That spec is built around a default Honda 2.4-litre K24 motor mounted in the middle, which in naturally aspirated form produces 275hp and equates to 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds. However, there’s a Rotrex supercharger available to magnify that to 400hp. As you can imagine in such a lightweight car, it produces a decidedly spicy power-to-weight ratio of 570hp per tonne and 0-62mph 2.5 seconds. The six-speed manual gearbox is Honda’s, but there’s the option of a Quaife ‘box if you wish.

Supercar-zapping corning speeds are what this car is really about, mind. It produces 300kg of downforce at 125mph, rising to 467kg at its maximum that's quoted as 155mph+. It sits on unequal-length double wishbone suspension with selectable TracTive ACE dampers, and the brakes are supplied by AP Racing. And there’s no need to fret about which side of the road you’re going to be driving on – the Spartan can be swapped from left- to right-hand drive in 30 minutes.

LMC’s Managing Director, Oliver Hulme said: “We are thrilled to be offering this stunning car that, by combining cutting-edge technology with jaw-dropping 1960s-inspired styling, brings something completely fresh and exciting to the ever-expanding track-day market.”

Prices kick off at £105,000 plus VAT and shipping costs, and LMC has a demonstrator available now if you’re interested in having a go – it’s fair comment to say we certainly are. But be quick, because production is limited to just 300 units.

Phwoar that looks ace... Would prefer a K20A over a K24 as IME they're quicker-revving and sound/feel 'sweeter' from the driving seat (as well as having more revs at the top end), all aspects which lend themselves to this type of car.

Still, fair play to them for building it cool

Looks incredible from the back, not so much the front, but would still like one.

fk me, that Honda engine must be a heavy bd... they claimed 300 kilos for the original Ducati-engined version.

Mind you, that claim was about as credible as the ones they're now making for downforce.

Looks ace. Wonder what they do to get that much power out of the K24 compared to Ariel who get 235 and 300bhp out of NA and charged.

High reving k24s dont have that long lifespan, maybe Ariel have different priorities.

"Production is limited to 300 units". Made me smile.

I expect production is actually limited to how many they can sell.....

Just a pity that it is too pricey for me but good luck to anyone with deeper pockets.

There are lights in the front - they're tiny but they're there.
