Always a fun day, new reg plates, lots of people getting new cars

I’ve seen, a new focus - being fueled up
A new kuga - on the motorway
A new yaris - pulling out of the dealer with a old lady at the wheel, she looked pleased
A FFRR - that looked smart in a nice Grey, no tints and silver wheels with cream leather
A electric mini
Across the road have replaced their 22 plate Q5 with a 23 plate Q3 sportback - I think they could work for Audi.

I wouldn't have a clue what year a car was looking at the plate these days. After they moved to two changes per year I lost track of it and lost interest. I wouldn't even know what the new number is.

As long as you know what year it is, it's easy.

It's the September ones that throw me off. I have no idea what the first digit refers to.

It's just the current year, plus fifty.

The plan back in 2001 was to bring in a system that would last fifty years, starting with 51 in September 2001, then 02 in March 2002, 52, 03, 53 etc.
The system is designed to last 100 years. A new plate today, AB23 CDE, can be re-issed on 1/3/2073 as CDE 23AB

If you say so. To normal people it ranks just below train spotting.

I saw one on a Toyota BZ4X earlier this afternoon! I'm out tomorrow, so I'm hoping to spot a few more. Feels slightly disappointing that my 22 plate car is fast approaching a year old now.

Our bus company have had their newest bus waiting for weeks for today. It went off this morning proudly sporting its 23 plate and was duly "papped" by the various enthusiasts along its route

Seen a few around, amusingly the majority have been vans/service vehicles which are already looking a little dirty.

I saw a 23 plate lorry (just the cab) about 3 weeks ago on dealer plates, did have to do a double take!

One of the neighbours is expecting her 23 plate car this week too, I'm looking forward to seeing a 23 plate Puma replacing her 19 plate Puma!

I saw one 3 weeks ago, an EV bus being driven on trade plates (but had the 23 plate on display too).

Rather bizarre as I saw a 22 plate EV bus in February last year too in the same place.

In theory, yes. But I don't think there are currently any plans on what will happen in 2050.
Well there are plans, as back in 2001, the new system was hailed as a 100 year system, to work in the way I've described. Of course, plans may change before 2050.
