A lot of interesting chat on the Evo thread about the future of print magazines.

I just had an offer through to subscribe to a mag I’ve never heard of - Future Classics.

Anyone tried it? Is it the successor to Modern Classics?

Not aware of it (yet). The problem for marketing such mags is that after a few editions, they start going round on a loop. There is a finite number of interesting cars. Once the ‘usual suspects’ have featured, where do the editors look for new material? I do still buy those Wednesday classic newspapers but am usually disappointed by yet another article on a Morris Minor, MGB, or Silver Shadow. Update a little and we go to Peugeot 205 and Golf in GTI spec and numerous fast Fords .Yes, this is more ‘real world’ than the exotic glossy monthlies (“ The Alvis was bought new by Dr Death from Turnback and Blowever of Tonbridge in 1937) To sum up Imho Modern Classics had only so far to go.

According to https://shop.kelsey.co.uk/single-issue/future-clas... , it launched in Jan 2021 as Bargain Cars, and rebranded last October to Future Classics .

Flicked through it and thought it was awful.

Anyone looking for a closer replacement to Modern Classics should look at Classic, Retro, Modern - its very good indeed

Absolutely this.

Classic. Retro. Modern is brilliantly written, with high quality photography, lovely reproductions of old car adverts and some really interesting features. It's well worth a subscription - I can't recommend it enough.

Unfortunately Future Classics and its predecessor, Bargain Cars, doesn’t live up to the same standards. Car Mechanics, a sister title, is worth a look if you’re that way inclined, though.
