Done to death I'm sure, but can't find a recent thread via the search function.

Who's good for insurance on JDM imports? Obviously for price but for quality of service, too. Appreciate there are many variables but some recommendations would be nice.

I've already called one of the main 'specialists', they were a bit over what I was expecting but below my limit.

I'll probably only ring two or three more, tops.

I tried a few of the brokers but ended up with Admiral - they even covered it on the chassis number while I was getting it registered.

LV, Direct Line, Adrian Flux, Japcover, Mark Richards, Lifesure all seem OK from the Stepwgn groups I'm on.

Never had any issues insuring any of my Japanese car (Honda et al) imports or my more recently BMW imports from Japan

Chris Knott have generally been about the best; Adrian Flux have been good as well...

The comparison sites can offer good insights sometimes; but they're next to useless when it comes to mods etc

One thing I will say is that if you're car is of a quality that it's absolutely worth more than the equivalent UK examples; get an agreed valuation sorted when you're sorting the insurance. It's great for peace if mind!

For whatever reason I didn't think to ask my current insurer, they cover imports though according to their website. Would be at least less hassle.

Tried AF, they were very good on the phone, think I'll try Direct Line too.

Yeah, I gathered this from general comments I've seen online. No better than your standard insurers, anyway.

Don't agree

Chris Knott have been superb with me; never had a claim thankfully. But they did everything I needed as well as helping me sort agreed valuations on my 2 previous Japanese import BMWs etc

They're more understanding, understand your passion for cars and will work better for you when it comes to getting the best deal etc

Plus they offer good forum discounts too!

I had a look on the meerkat. Unfortunately the car isn't listed but I chose the closest equivalent, put it down as an import, and got some quotes for a rough idea. They were very reasonable, but so far have proven to be incorrect.

That's good to know, I'll put them on the list.

Best bet is checking with the relevant owners club firstly they may have special deals with insurers and second you'll have loads of opinions from owners of the model.

I had a Eunos Roadster for 5 yrs, normally went through Adrian Flux, but back then most mainstream insurers wouldn't touch grey market imports. Also I wanted an agreed value on it.

The Impreza WRX STi import went through Sheila's wheels
