Amazing! Scotland is starting what’s believed to be the worlds first driverless bus service…. Though, reading the article, each bus will actually have two members of staff onboard. Which by my reckoning is twice as many as the average bus biglaugh

A driverless bus travelling to the airport park and ride. What could possibly go wrong?

Bonkers. Just additional staff costs.

Not just additional staff costs - I bet the bus itself costs multiples the cost of a normal bus as well silly

We have one testing near our work. See it quite often. It's fking ugly! and it's not very big. I sometimes get the urge to walk in front of it and make some money smile

Once the tech is proven and everyone's comfortable no need.

It's a testing scheme! It isn't as if having 2 staff would be the end goal - zero staff is the end goal. This is a testing of the tech to iron out the kinks over time.

This is simply another step in the direction of having autonomous vehicles on the road ferrying us all about. Eventually, we will have our cars doing the same and then we will be priced out of car ownership in favour of subscription and pay-as-you-go schemes so that the number of privately-owned vehicles can be reduced.

It's all a long way off, of course, first ICE to EV and then vehicle numbers reduction will be focussed upon in earnest to stop the unsustainable traffic congestion that is getting worse.

Oh I agree, in theory yes. But I don’t see the Scottish Government ever sacking the ‘safety driver’ and bus captain, though I guess the captain could be redeployed on their ferries… wink

Yes, all quite possible.

I'll tell my grandchildren to know that such a bus may be routinely around by the time they're middle age.....
