No thanks.

“It is great news that Ford has chosen us for the European launch of its BlueCruise technology, and I am delighted that this country is once more at the forefront of innovation,” said Jesse Norman, the transport minister.

Sounds more like we are at the forefront of volunteering our citizens to be the test subjects

That's really nothing special. Automated cruise control with stop and ago, lane keep assist and driver looking camera.

Most premium new cars can technically do it without issue, most just require a hand to be lightly in the steering wheel.

My last car had it in 2019, I could remove my hand for 20 seconds odd and the car would still follow the road no probs, before shouting at me to touch the wheel again.

As for safety, emergancy braking has been around for 10 years.... Very old technology now.

Rather not - which part exactly ? The part where it’s been tested already by professional testers?

The 'public', by and large, are barely functioning cretins. Giving the average loon an auto driving car and we can only guess how the system might be abused. If it wasn't so dangerous it would be hilarious.

I have a Tesla as it happens - I occasionally use lane assist (or whatever it's called), maybe once a month, on a motorway, for probably no more than a few moments. It's flakey and unreliable - I actually think it requires more concentration in case it perceives a threat that doesn't exist and slams on the anchors.

How fabulous. Long lines of cars on the motorway all stuck in lane going slower and slower.

My dad has a Hyundai Ioniq with an intelligent cruise control system and it is great.

It steers itself round bends on a motorway. I’m not sure why this should be so useful, as it doesn’t seem like much effort, but I’m also not sure why traditional cruise was so good, as you’re only just pressing the accelerator.

On a 100 mile motorway run, all you have to do for yourself is change lanes.

No need - straight to lane 2, stay there for 100 miles.

Maybe this bit?

More than 193,000 drivers are using the system there and have covered more than 64 million miles, without accident, according to the company.
Ford have a lot of 'professional' drivers out there.

Since an onboard camera will be checking if your eyes are watching the road, I can't see this as much of a benefit. Lightly holding the steering wheel is hardly a chore is it? I use cruise all the time on the cars that have it, it saves aching ankles. smile But it seems only one more step away from autonomous rows of cars on 'smart' (?) motorways, which would actually help in busy periods.

I timed my Kia at five minutes at a steady 130kmh with zero driver input before the wheels were rebalanced. Only get 20 seconds out of it now.

Not sure who this tech is aimed at. If a person doesn't want to drive, then why don't they take a taxi, train or bus?
Its an expensive and pointless pursuit to have to finance a car over 'x' number of years. or buy a car outright if you are a person who doesn't like driving.

Unless you spent 80k on a new A8. They didn’t bother fitting the camera or steering wheel sensors even after telling their customers the car was “ready for level 3 autonomy”. So you have to pointlessly wiggle the wheel every 10 seconds to prove you’re there.

I assume you crash if you forget to pay your subscription and rely on the system?

I thought Ford gave up on driverless tech last year?

And / or does the car undertake?

My Audi active cruise does not undertake unless you override it with a tap on the accelerator and a Porsche I drove’ active cruise does undertake.
