Parked car damaged, insurance write off and settlement
Discussion
My parked car was hit from behind where the driver didn't see said giant rectangular object in front of them. Anyway, they were honest enough to knock on the door and own up.
Rear end damage isn't too bad but its bent the structure behind bumper, various plastics/light need replacing...etc. A couple of accident repair places wouldn't quote as they said it will be a write off.
No worries, Ive looked at second values and they seem to be 2.5k-3k but despite this, their insurer insists that the 'proprietary internal valuation system' they use puts the value at 1k and max they can go to is £1.5k. The repair centre they insisted on us using has also ignored me after I sent details (presumably for the aforementioned reason).
TBH its not so much the cash, more that they seem not to operate in my reality.
Id rather not involve our insurer if I can help it and would settle in the middle, albeit less than market value (or that minus the cost of buying the car back).
Does anyone have experience of nudging them up?
Is it just a case of moaning more?
14 day letter before action appropriate?

Go through insurance.
That's what it's there for. Also as terms and conditions of your policy you have to make them aware. If the car gets flagged up later to then, they can void your insurance and that will hit you a lot harder in the pocket at renewal (You'll have to tick the box that says you've had a policy cancelled or voided.)
Even if you don't want to get insurance involved the bare minimum, you should inform them of the incident and say you'll sort it yourself.

You seem to have hit a bit of a brick wall with the 3rd party insurer, so you can either claim through your own company (assuming you put a market sort of value on it at policy inception), or try and find an accident management company who will cost everyone lots more. Did you NEED a hire car?

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. We are in contact with the insurance company of the people that hit our parked car i.e. we're trying to claim from their insurance.
We've told our insurance company so no worries there :-)
Tell them how much you want and that you need a hire car while they think about it.We've told our insurance company so no worries there :-)

No need for a hire car but need to get it sorted as while it is drivable, the damage needs repairing. QJumper said:

Ha, maybe we do ;-) This is kind of what annoys me about insurance, we go to the other side, be honest about not needing any expensive hire cars...etc, pragmatic about accepting a low offer to sort this out with the minimal of fuss and they take the piss. Ill kick off a little more. I said I would accept 1.5k + keep car which would be just under 2k inc. salvage cost.
