Unlimited duration full European car insurance
Discussion
My brother is facing a bit of a problem. He currently works all over Europe. He’s looking for private car insurance for no limits on duration. He might do a month in france, a couple of months in Germany, the. Out to Belgium for a few weeks. He never really knows how long and where he’s going to be.
His current provider is no longer prepared to offer the cover.
He owns a house in the uk and uk is home but he’s only really here for maybe a month or so a year.
Google so far seems to have lots of policies for 60 or 90 days cover but nothing that meets his criteria.
Anybody got any ideas/recommendations/suggestions.
Car is currently on a UK plate because he’s never in another country long enough to have to register it on a different countries plates.

How does he work when overseas?
Does he work through his own company?
If so, can he register the company with a European address (or maybe Eire based?) so he can get a EU based insurance policy against his company 'based' at an address within EU.
Given the amount of time he spends away, I'd be looking at this option and buying a LHD car as well instead.

No he is payee, he works for a company building data centres they supply all the tooling, equipment, accommodation etc. He just pays for his food and drives in his own car from location to location. Does he work through his own company?

He was alts company but IR35 has put an end to that.
Basically just wants his own car wherever he is working for freedom of movement.

Yeah, tell me about it....
If I was spending so little time in UK, I think I'd be swapping to a LHD car though.
Strangely he’s been considering replacing it as he’s had it quite a while now and with all the ULEZ appearing in lots of European cities a knackerd old polluting diesel mondeo is starting to attract the associate payments.

As you say, the ULEZ zones springing in up all over EU is another factor to consider as well.

Its the hassle though, with things like toll booths, car park barriers, and just driving around in general on teh wrong side of the car. If its for a few months a year then OK, but if he's spending most of his time away, then its a lot more hassle.

Personally it never bothers me, and it actually has one or two advantages. As you say, the ULEZ zones springing in up all over EU is another factor to consider as well.
And it would have to be balanced with the hassle / restricted choice of buying, insuring and selling a LHD car in the UK.
High emissions will certainly be a problem though.

Commuting is to & from one regular place of work. To & from various places of work is business use. It appears to be yet another of the unadvertised benefits of Brexit: mine have reduced from simply 'European' cover to now being a maximum of xx days per year.
Whilst not wishing to open a can of worms, it's just another example of inconvenience (some quite considerable ) and/or extra costs that have resulted from the ability to take back control of our borders.
Looking on the positive side, I dread to think what the NHS would be looking like now, though, if it hadn't been benefitting from the extra £350 million each week. Always a silver lining

Who are you insured with? Apart from Stuart Collins mentioned above, I didn't find anywhere offering full year euro cover when I was looking a few years back.Whilst not wishing to open a can of worms, it's just another example of inconvenience (some quite considerable ) and/or extra costs that have resulted from the ability to take back control of our borders.
