Shell V-Power and the stink of pies
Discussion
For one reason or another I use Shell V-Power fuel and have for many years been a regular customer at Shell petrol stations. But through the last few months the smell has become so bad I'm thinking of switching brands. It's not the fuel that stinks, it's their forecourt shops where even a quick visit to pay for fuel ends up with clothes stinking for hours because of the all-pervading stench of greasy pies from their ovens. This is an equal hazard at any of the Shell stations around where I live and at any time of day.
So if I'm going to abandon Shell can anyone suggest a reliable brand for a combination of good fuel and stench-free shops?

The app is good, I've used it many times in the past.
Just fire it up right before you get out to put the nozzle in, otherwise it causes problems if you wait too long after authorising and starting to fill.
Only issue for me is one of the regular Shell stations I use hardly has any mobile signal, so I can't use it there.

I don’t think I have ever come out of a filling station shop smelling of anything, same for local bakery, greggs, fish and chop shop etc etc etc.So if I'm going to abandon Shell can anyone suggest a reliable brand for a combination of good fuel and stench-free shops?
Try a different deodorant.

I've noticed pay-at-pump at some places and must pay more attention to it.

Do all places have pay-at-pump? If that's the case I've not noticed, other than at the supermarket filling stations and they aren't generally places I choose to buy petrol.
Shell? Pay on app not pay at pump has been a thing for six(ish) years how. Surely you’ve noticed the signs by every pump about paying via app? All Shell branded stations in the UK support pay on app.I used to use V-Power but Shell have been consistently 1-2p over every other garage in the area for normal unleaded, and 4-6p over for V-Power.
I normally just use Sainsburys Super Unleaded, 6p cheaper and the staff are far more friendly. The Shell garage also seems to disregard their opening hours and happily close doors after 9pm, even though they're meant to be open until 11pm. Very annoying when working night shift.
Plus, Shell absolutely destroying their loyalty points make it much less enticing to spend >£100 to save 15p on a s
tty coffee, whereas at least Sainsburys offer similar savings but on groceries, i.e. stuff you'd actually buy and use the points on.
Edit: My local Asda doesn't do super unleaded so I don't visit, but they undercut the Sainsburys by 0.2p per litre. So, instead of 142.9p a litre, it's 142.7p a litre. I don't know what that does for their margins but the small forecourt is always way busier than Sainsburys.
