Bought a used car from a dealer on 6th April, that's now about 6 and a half weeks ago and still no sign of the V5C. I did see him with the old one at the time of sale. I have messaged him to ask if he knows what's going on but got no response. Is this about normal for the lead time these days?

I bought a car a couple of weeks back and am yet to receive the new V5C. Up to 4 weeks is what the DVLA say.

Thanks for that. Just had a look online and tried to apply for a duplicate V5C, got an error saying it could not continue after entering the reg number, VIN number and my surname and postcode so looks like the dealer hasn't even registered me as the new keeper yet. I'll get onto him first thing, seems that I may have to cough up £25 for a new V5C!

It’s taking ages. My dad bought a new to him car 5 weeks ago and has no v5.

DVLA sent a letter to him last week saying sorry for the delay it will be another 2 weeks or so.

It will do as it’s automated that way so no human involvement. Sometimes that’s not possible then it takes a while.

We can’t compare the two processes unfortunately

Thanks for that. I'll call DVLA first then and see if they can tell me what's going on before I get onto the dealer.
