Decided to change the oil on my wifes 2014 Fiesta with the 1.0 engine, was fairly sure I had the correct oil in my collection, there is 20 lites of various 5W30's in there but all say they are a VW/Audi/Merc/porsche spec, will probably buy some but as long as its the correct viscosity, will probably do only 4k and will get changed this time next year, will it make any difference ?
And on a nearly 10 year old Fiesta does it actually matter ? What are the technical differences ?

At 4K before the next change, it'll make no odds. And on a nearly 10 year old Fiesta does it actually matter ? What are the technical differences ?

The 1.0 ecoboost or N/A takes a 5w20 oil if I remember correctly And on a nearly 10 year old Fiesta does it actually matter ? What are the technical differences ?
They are as fragile I'd not recommend trying any other oils in it. Changed one with a massive window in the block with conrod poking out and one with a stripped timing belt...worth noting they have a wet timing belt so changing the viscosity and different additives may speed up the failure point for that.

Aren't these the Ecoboost with the wet belt? in which case, the oil shouldn't be scrimped on.And on a nearly 10 year old Fiesta does it actually matter ? What are the technical differences ?
according to google, should run on - Engine Oil - SAE 5W-20 - Full Synthetic

It is 5w20, have ordered some, annoying when there is gallons of the stuff in the garage !
Suspect it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference but may as well put the correct stuff in for £40, more about freeing up shelf space.
If it wasn't a wet timing belt it'd be worth chucking some decent 0w30 in imho, but it is, and it's definitely not worth it!Suspect it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference but may as well put the correct stuff in for £40, more about freeing up shelf space.
I do wonder how much the oil meeting the manufacturer spec matters vs just caring about viscosity matters, plenty online to suggest "lots" but usually based on no or very little technical knowledge. On something with a reputation like the ecoboost I'd not want to experiement and find out though
