Anyone had to sell up due to thieves?
Discussion
Anyone else had to sell their car due to thieves?
We’ve now had two visits from four men in balaclavas in the middle of the night. First attempt they tried snapping the locks (failed and went next door and took their Audi), second attempt looked like trying to use a relay device. But the second time they had weapons - baseball bats and what looks like a machete.
I’m absolutely gutted as it’s my pride and joy and I love the car; it’s just not worth putting my family at risk for some metal.
The police have been ok, arrested three but released due to lack of evidence. Question is, would they risk coming back or are they likely to inform other s
tbags that there’s a car worth stealing at xxxx address? To my mind the next step for them would be forced entry but that’s then a much bigger crime, or is forced entry still relatively rare?
If it matters, the car is an F-Pace SVR and the scumbags in question who were arrested were from Bradford.

I lived near a string of pubs when I had my vx220 and after 2 occasions where pissed pricks climbed on top I moved it to a friends garage a 10minute walk from my house. Anybody nearby with an empty garage that you are friendly with?
Yeah, I’ve stored it in a friend’s barn on his farm but that’s not really a long term solution. We’re off the road and from the CCTV it’s only by chance that they saw it through a gap in the hedge. Although I did wonder if it was one of the dozens of delivery drivers that come next door every day that’s passed the info on….Hoofy said:

k that. It'd be on Autotrader before I'd even posted on here.
Just a sense check, really. You never know whether you’re overreacting. I was actually out of the country at work and seeing four tooled up men on cctv with your family in the house is awful. Utterly helpless. Fortunately work have been great and sent me home on standby - again, I didn’t know if that was an overreaction or not, but everyone seems to say they’d had done the same.
k that. It'd be on Autotrader before I'd even posted on here.I always see cars with steering wheel locks, driveways with retractable posts, cctv & motion activated lights etc. Basically all of the visual deterrents to make them go elsewhere. One person somewhere said that if they wanted it they'd lift it with their truck, but how many people access to those? not many.
I think though that even if you make it as hard as possible to get, even with the things I've mentioned, they might just follow you home one day or wait for you to get home and attack you as you get out of it.
I saw it recently on Crimewatch where a chap had his BMW X3M taken.
Good luck with it. It's not something I'd want to be thinking about all the time.

All you can really do is ramp up security where possible and make it as difficult as possible.
That said if people are willing to break in and threaten you until you make it easy for them to take perhaps you're at a loss. A friends garage might be good. Sadly any place where you're parked on the front or on the road is going to make it hard to hide.
Could you perhaps look to move it somewhere for a few weeks, hope they assume it's gone and look elsewhere?

I really feel for you and the family and trust me you are not the only one. Many peole have had worse regard to break in with guns etc the police catch these scumbags but due to lack of evidence !! b
ks its easier to catch a driver speeding.
A good friend was burgled when they where in the house asleep they took personal belongings and 2 new cars. changed him and his wife and are very paranoid now.
A bigger issue in London and suburbs hence insurance premiums are sky rocketing.
Only you know what is right for you and your family.

It's mostly drugs related crime these goons will be working off debts owed to the nasty characters up the chain, anyone that takes drugs needs to start seeing the connection to most of the theft/violent crime that blights the UK, as they are fuelling it 100%.

I’ve got electric gates, secure doors, ant-snap locks, multipoint windows, lighting, faraday box and CCTV - without going metal shutters there’s not much more I can do. I’m guessing that’s why the first two attempts failed and they went next door where they were in and out in minutes. Interesting you mention the drugs, that’s what the police said. I guess it makes sense; your average scumbag chav isn’t going to have the connections to dismantle and sell entire cars on an industrial scale.
Sorry to hear about this situation. No car is worth any kind of danger to yourself or family.
There are plenty of cars out there that are fun but don’t compute with the scum. They generally want the ‘flavour of the month’ stuff.
Something from a less mainstream maker, or a classic, would probably not interest these tossers.

None of that is going to stop the car being stripped in the night like happened to my old boss and his brand new 5 series. They literally took the whole front end and interior and he (and his dog) didn't hear a thing.Forums | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
