I’ve been thinking about maybe chopping and changing some of my cars. Swap this for that, maybe sell a couple, buy something more expensive or newer. You know, the general PistonHeads conundrum.

And then it dawned on me - I just love cars.

I don’t really care what I’m driving, I generally have a wonderful time. Just something about it, the open road, the freedom, the radio playing as the sun shines, or winding through dark country lanes at night.

I really just love cars. It’s a good place to be because it means I’m not spending a fortune on them, or tied into long lease deals or HP this and that. I really think I can have as much fun in a Fiesta as I could a Ferrari.

One of the downfall of pretending to be a connoisseur is that you need to dislike 99% of what’s out there. Not me!

You have a 1996 Hyundai? I’ll probably like it.
Oh, a new Focus? I’ll think it’s a lovely thing
Exclusive Porsche 911? Amazing! Great stuff.

There’s too much pessimism out there now - let’s just celebrate cars, because they’re great!

It’s a good point. I drove the mother-in-laws Citroen C1 today about 50 miles….really enjoyed beating the little thing up trying to make it go fast.

Because he's a bell end.

Like the OP, I get a bit excited whenever I drive a car for the first time, doesn't matter what it is. The only time I took an instant dislike to a car was when I had to drive a cee'd a few hundred miles to Scotland from down south. Absolutely hateful thing, I think it was an eco whatnot and couldn't for the life of me work it out as it wouldn't/coudn't overtake as there was some kind of limiter on it that wouldn't allow it to go above a certain RPM. Utterly horrendous thing.

Yep I'm with you on that! I love cars too. I visit a place up here in Yorkshire called The Motorist cafe fairly frequently because there is always something interesting there, be that old, new, unusual, rare, cheap, expensive and special. The variety is awesome and talking to the owners is equally fun.

Driving is great, it's an enjoyable pastime in almost anything out there - for me personally it is now even better as all of my commutes are now on the train. This means nearly all of my driving is for pleasure. Wonderful! smile

I also love looking at cars, researching purchases, driving cars, reading, writing and talking about them. Full on car nerd. nerd

If a younger you counted down the days until you could earn your your driving licence... Then you know the sense of occasion celebrated by the OP.

Time marches on, but true love remains.

One day, some years from now, there won't be any car that you'll drive. Not even the most plain. Carpe Diem

I know what you mean. I love them, too. And if someone has taken some effort with them, I can appreciate that too.

So I’ll go one stage further than the OP’s three examples. My wife has just bought a 2015 Nissan Leaf, and I’ve been running about in it a bit. And really enjoying myself!

I also hired a Ford Transit to move some furniture last month, and that was good fun too smile

, similar story for me , I picked up my mother in laws 2017 Honda jazz 1,3 auto to sell it for her ,recent ill health probably means she won’t drive again , drove it back home 35 miles and really enjoyed the drive back , car goes well for a 1,3 has a sport mode on the auto box and it has paddle shift on the steering wheel, all of which I was having a play with . The car is pretty much as new having covered a mere 4000 miles in 6 years and only 200 miles between the last mot , someone is going to get a lovely little run about . Driving a slow car can be really good fun , even in a jazz ! Who would have thought it .

I've been offered jobs driving but refused them all
But!
I enjoy driving, love the early morning drives down the North Coast routes
The kit car was great, no roof, no windscreen, no radio, as it should be
Enjoy it all, may not be too far away when you cannot do it
My limitation is being the wrong side of 63!
Won't be the same in a wheelchair

In theory, I like cars, but in practice I wish I didn't.

I live in the middle of a busy suburb and I don't have much reason to drive during a normal week. When I do, it's very rarely on the right roads at the right time. I don't have a massive budget for cars. There's an AW11 MR2 in the garage which I've only managed to put 6000 miles on in the last 15 years.

I wish I was into something else.

The irony of people criticising me for a simple comment whilst also handing out personal insults as if that somehow makes you better, give yourself a pat on the back whilst congratulating you on your moral superiority.

A man with such thin skin probably best not spend his time posting snide comments.

I often use our Aygo rather than our other cars as it is perfect whizzing around our local country lanes and track roads.

Wringing it's neck just seems to make it run better and better...

Oh and i love my bikes too..

Amen.

I drove this pussy magnet around 800kms from Nagoya to Tokyo, parked in valet at the Hyatt, then off through the mountains to Nagano. Was f*cking great fun.
