Hi y'all,
last year I was researching about car insurance and how much different cars would cost to insure, etc.
So I went on sites like comparethemarket and said (because I was only 16) I'd passed my test and that I'd been born a year earlier and had a license etc so I could plan ahead to see what the best insurance would be when I did pass my test.
I never let the insurance companies contact me afterwards, but a couple times no quotes were available due to the car being too high power.

Now that I am 17 and need car insurance soon do I need to put 'yes' to the question 'have you ever had insurance cancelled, declined or special terms imposed?'

Really hoping I haven't fked myself over just by trying to research insurance.

Have you ever attempted to buy motor insurance and been declined? If the answer is no then there is nothing to declare.

It's a fraud /financial check rather than a risk check. It is designed to capture whether you have failed to meet payments on a policy or attempted to insure a car that doesn't exist, or claim for something that didn't happen. Something like that.

it is not supposed to be for changing cars and the insurance company deciding that they require a certain age profile for the performance of that car.

My understanding of 'declined' in this context (please correct me otherwise) was if for example you have an existing policy that you attempt to claim on, but the insurer refuses due to you breaching the terms of the contract...

Eg. You have undisclosed modifications, or crash your car when over the drink limit, something like that.

Another good example.
