I’ve just received a letter from my insurer saying they will not renew my insurance despite the fact I have over 20 years no claims and have never made a late payment.
Before I go to the press over this, is there something I am missing?

That the press will be interested?

Don't waste your time, move on there are plenty of insurers.
You may find it cheaper elsewhere.

Have you heard of the meerkats, or that opera gocompare bloke, or money supermarket, or confused? I’m sure they’ll find about 50 insurers who’ll take you on for a price.

Oh and I think you mean renewal, not reinsurance.

It's massively obviously not an uninsurable risk, they have simply decided that they, or their insurers don't want to do that business any more. As said by others, get on the meerkat, and discover that others would quite like to take your money.

Just insure it elsewhere, quite often cheaper to move each year anyway.

It may seem crazy, but they are under no obligation to insure you...
I was contacted by my home insurer earlier in the year to say they could no longer insure my home.
I went elsewhere without issue and the new policy was a few quid cheaper than last years premium anyway.

Probably not uninsurable, probably that you are in a very crowded part of the market and they can't make enough margin?

Yes I mean renewal and of course I’ll get insured elsewhere.
I was just wondering why after over a decade they e decided to bin me off, no reason given.

Aren't Hastings direct actually a broker? Its probably just the insurance company they are acting on behalf of that have left the market.

Hastings Direct is a broker, not an insurer:

https://www.hastingsdirect.com/insurers/

ETA. ...although they also underwrite their own stuff.

For cars they only use Advantage Insurance according to the matrix you posted, which is part of the same group as Hastings.

Definitely down to them not wanting the business in that case.
