Morning all.

I hope I'm allowed to post here... my current car doesn't actually have pistons, being a Nissan Leaf 😁

The Leaf in question had a brake warning light come on last week for a bit, then go out again. Being naturally cautious, I though I'd get Nissan to check it out, so booked an appointment for yesterday. Nothing too major, but needs new discs and pads, which isn't a surprise because I was given an advisory about that at the last MOT, and they showed me a video of the wear.

However.

Today, out of the blue, I'm getting a really odd noise from something to do with the air con. Like someone's switching on a large hair dryer under the bonnet. It comes and goes, as, presumably some motor / belt starts and stops. But if I turn off the air con, it stops instantly.

Now obviously, cars develop faults. The car's done 50k miles, so not a huge amount, but enough that there will be issues occasionally. But it's never had any issue with the air con before, and I can't get over this nagging feeling... "It was okay until I took it to the dealer yesterday... Are they making themselves more work?"

So, what do you think? Am I paranoid, or rightly suspicious? I'm guessing there must be people on here who've worked for main dealers - have you seen this sort of thing happen? Or should I just realise that big bills and personal transportation go together like, well, electric cars and range anxiety?

Your thoughts appreciated...

Andrew

I guess from my perspective, if it is a dealer, the mechanic working on your car will be on a wage and unlikely to do anything to create more work, he gets paid anyway and I am sure has plenty of jobs booked in.

How long did you have to wait before they could even inspect your car? Imagine that would have been a few days.

It is most likely one of those timing things, just coincidence.

I don't really think many independent garages need to try to create work as most seem to always be busy without creating more...

With the current waiting time to get into a main dealer for servicing, repairs etc, I doubt they need to create work for themselves.

Worked for main dealers for years. This never happens, you’re being paranoid.
Most dealers have got enough problems and work without trying to manufacture problems on customers cars.

Aye, who would want to create more work and a moaning customer?

Working in a dealership isn't much different from working on a support desk, you get a job and resolve it. You don't go digging for other problems just in case.

Cool!

Thanks for that. It's good to know that I'm just being paranoid.

As someone who's worked in IT, I've literally had "After you came to sort out my PC the fan in my office stopped working, can you supply a new one" so I figured I might be being paranoid! Good to have it confirmed smile
