Insurance for Irish van

Hi folks
I live in Northern Ireland and have bought a Renault Kangoo van in the Republic of Ireland
I am in the process of re-registering the van, there is just one problem though, insurance companies
Adrian flux are very expensive, Acorn kept me on the phone for the best part of an hour then just said no without giving me a reason
Other companies tell me it must be registered with UK plates before they will insure it but the problem is the DVLA say the opposite
Anyone have any suggestions?
