Hi

I've had a full car service carried out on my '22 plate Ford Kuga today. As it's a '22 plate then its this cars first service.

I had the service carried out by a mobile car mechanic who was well reviewed and carried out the service on my driveway at home

However, they were literally here for about 30 minutes maximum. To me that seems like too little time to be undertaking a full and proper car service, even if my car is only 12 months old

I've been provided with a full service check sheet, with all items shown as 'green'.

Would just be interested in getting other people's thought?

I reckon if you made him a cup of tea, and a bit of a chat at the end he could of stretched it to an hour.

What was on the check sheet? First year services are usually pretty light - basically an oil and filter change and quick check of the brakes, etc.

What exactly have they done as a "Full car service"?

Have they confirmed what they have replaced if anything?

Probably didn't need anything more than a visual check over and an oil change and I dare say I could do an oil change in under 30 minutes on most cars if I wanted to.

I do wonder why you opted for a driveway mechanic on what is basically a new car under warranty although if the mechanic is VAT registered and has provided an invoice for the service with detail of the work done you should be ok

I wondered this too.

Not something I would ever entertain on a new car

That will have been oil and filters - you can do that in no time at all with a little experience. I think my Transit takes me less than that.

He'll have then glanced at brake pads etc (maybe) - but at 12 months, there will have been very little to do.

My indy doesnt even call them major and minor services - they are named as they are, "oil and filter service" etc.

'tis why I do my own on all but the R8. Even brake fluid changes are simple with an E-Zbleed kit.

According to invoice, replaced air and oil filters and topped up oil

How much did the service cost?

Appreciate the replies. Isn't my warranty void if I don't have a yearly service carried out ? That's what I've been told previously.

That could easily be done in 1/2 hour I would imagine on your car although personally I would expect the oil to be changed and not just topped up, that may just be a wording thing though

I have to ask given it's in warranty why you wouldn't take it to a main dealer, out of warranty it's up to you.

Pretty much that. There's no requirement to take it to a main dealer in order to not void the warranty. Plus l, if I had taken it to a Ford dealership, it would have been around £280 for a full service

So you have a new car, but don't want to spend the ££ maintaining it? I know technically you don't need to, and I'm not saying you'll have a lesser experience, but when something goes wrong it becomes much easier for them to argue the claim.

I have to agree. Also, can a chap in a van deal with any software updates etc that may be available?

Are you interested in any support from Ford if something goes badly wrong?

Personally I’d get it serviced by Ford for at least their warranty period. Pure by-the-book services aren’t that expensive, even from main dealers.
