I took my Caterham for a MOT yesterday and he had trouble logging it on the system. I think they put the reg in, then the last 6 digits from the chassis no, mine ends in a D.
Cut to the end, he did it manually and said check other MOTs when you get home.
So the old certificates and my V5 show it as last digit is N.
Is it likely to be straight forward to get the DVLA to correct this?

Good luck, it’s never straight forward to get the DLVA to do anything that’s non routine IME.

Crikey, for 34 years the MOT testers haven't read the Vin from the vehicle like they're supposed to.

I had an import that they needed to inspect once, drove it up to my local DVLA place in Peterborough.

The local DVLA centres are all closed now I think, so I let us know where they ask you to take it, or maybe they'll send someone out?

After 34 years I think I'd carry on ignoring it. Not the correct answer but I think trying to correct it with the DVLA will open up a massive can of worms that you may wish you never started to do.

I had the same issue with a Ducati motorcycle, it took a while and numerous photos but managed to get the DVLA to correct it.

I had that on a Ducati as well, not only was the VIN not quite right but every HPI check or similar had it as white, which was not available on a UK spec ST3 in 2005. In fact it was silver as recorded on the original paperwork.

My 32 year old car was listed as Silver on the V5, when it's always been Blue. I phoned them and they said send the V5 with a letter explaining what the error was. I did and also enclosed a photocopy of the manufacturer's datacard showing it was Blue.

It took about four weeks for them to send a corrected V5.

I can't understand how the 7 or 8 previous owners didn't bother to get it corrected.

Easier to change the letter on the chassis.

The cc of my Aprilia is stated as 9998cc on the reg document!

Choosing not to open the potential can of worms which often results when interacting with the DVLA seems to have been a good choice, 15 years and nobody has mentioned it yet.

In 1980 my best mates dad took his orange M3 Cortina for its first MoT. They noticed the registration plates were UVF ???R when they should have been UFV???R.

Lucky that wasn't in Norn Iron eek

I had a similar thing with my first motorbike. Bought it brand new, went and got my parking permit from the local council...first day, got a parking ticket, but they'd filled out the wrong reg! Mine ended (e.g.) ABC and they'd written ACB. Weird. Second day, same thing. Double checked the parking permit, ABC. Checked the reg documents, ABC. Third time happened and I thought I was going mad, checked the actual numberplate on the bike...ACB!

Quick round trip to the very sheepish bike dealer, swap over to the correct numberplates and binned the parking tickets.
