I seem to recall many moons ago that a driver sucessfully claimed against a company where a stone that was lodged between the twin wheels at the back. became loose and shattered his windscreen

I ask this as this week a lorry ran over a sheet of wood and it was projrcted into the fromt of my car breaking the headlamp and slight damage to the bodywork.

Would it be worth contacting the company to see if they will shell out for a replacement and fitting

I have the dashcam vid.. in fact if i had been further back it couls well have impacted the windscreen. in front of Mrs Fox

Or is it, as i suspect An act of God

No harm in asking the question, but I’m struggling to see any fault or liability.

It’s not an act of god, but you can’t trace who dropped it, so claim your own insurance

You'd need to prove negligence by the lorry driver to make a successful claim.

And given what happened it doesn't sound like he was negligent. It would be different if it had been badly loaded and something fell off it!

I'd save a world of pain and make a windscreen claim - it shouldn't affect your NCD.

Just suck it up.
I wish people would stop looking for every excuse to claim money from other people.

His windscreen wasn't damaged. It is a broken headlamp and some bodywork damage.

Had a stone crack our window from a tractor exiting a field. Had the dash cam but no reg therefore zero chance of confirming liability. Suck it up

Those trucks with twin wheels each side at the rear can be lethal. They have in the past picked up loose cats eyes and flung them through windscreens etc. I always give them far more space than I would any other type of vehicle for this reason.

I was following a low loader on the A34 a few years ago with an excavator strapped to the bed. It was filthy and debris was falling onto the road so I hung back a bit until I could overtake.

Large chunk dropped just as I was going round, did a slingshot off the rear axle, spun into the air and smashed into my screen before bouncing off onto the other carriage way.

Was like a gun going off inside the car, a seven series BMW built like a tank.

I dropped back and called the number on the low loader, got the boss and told him how bad the debris was (it was falling from the tracks of the excavator). I asked him to pull the truck over, so he phoned the driver and I got their details. No dash cam but if the chunk that hit me had hit a biker it would have killed them.

New screen was fitted with £100 excess on insurance, which the owner covered, I just think he needed to be away on the boat and didn’t need the hassle of getting trouble for a bad load tbh….

Yes. Years ago I was following one, and noticed a whole house brick wedged between one pair - I dropped way, way back.

Contact what company? The one that dropped the “sheet of wood” on the road?
Obviously you don’t know who did this, but you think the haulier that ran over this might stump up for your damage?
I once had an extremely irate man swerve infront of my lorry and stop me, he was furious that a stone had flicked up from the rear wheels of my lorry and made a large chip in his windscreen-it was not a half brick lodged between my rear wheels that had damaged his car, nor anything that had fallen from the load of my lorry, but a stone flicked up off the road ffs.
Not really much anyone can do about that I’m afraid.
Some people always want to blame someone though.
