Double motor insurance mess up
Discussion
Right, this has turned my brain in knots trying to work this out today. I will try to keep it concise but would appreciate some advice on this situation. What should this person do first?
Previously insured with Company A for several years. Decided to get quotes from other companies in 2022, decided to go with Company B at a lower premium. Somehow forgot that Company A was on auto renew. Has been insured by both companies for the last year and both have now renewed this year.
While with company A previously, 3 claims were made on the policy. 1 no fault, 1 fault and one was a courtesy car having a brick thrown at the window while on the drive. Due to someone else who wasn't given this info setting up the Company B policy, the insurance company were not made aware of these claims.
Last year, there was another claim made against this person but it was against the policy from Company B. I had thought that info is shared but Company A do not know about this claim at all.
So we now have two policies in place for the same person and vehicle. Both of which do not have full disclosure of previous claims and seemingly the system is not registering these claims with each company.
What is the best way to extricate this person from this brown mess? How can we convince Company A and evidence the fact that a claim was made against the policy from Company B when it is not showing up on their system?
