BAC to reveal new model at Monterey

Another single seater on the way, promising 'a new type of scintillating BAC driving experience'

It’s onwards and upwards at BAC in 2023; having recently confirmed former McLaren man Mike Flewitt as chairman, this year will mark the first time the brand has had an official presence at Monterey Car Week. And BAC is marking the occasion in style, as it’s set to reveal a new supercar in California.

Little is known for the moment, but given the Mono first launched 12 years ago this is clearly a significant milestone for the brand. This new model will again be a single seater and focus on all the attributes BAC has become known for - unique design, lightweight engineering, crazy high performance - but with what’s being called a ‘contrasting behind-the-wheel experience to that of its Mono R sibling’.  Given that car isn’t far from a street-legal single-seat racer, that statement would imply this second model might have a slightly more relaxed vibe than a Mono R. All things being relative, of course: BAC speaks of a new driving experience but still a ‘scintillating’ one. You sense that the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree when it comes to a new BAC single-seat supercar.

The debut of this car is set for August 17th at the ‘House of BAC’, a base described as ‘a carefully curated organic-inspired ranch that embodies the dynamic, thrilling and luxurious nature of the brand’. Never guess it was in California, would you? PR fluff aside, the important thing to note about the House (beyond the vineyard) is the intent it signifies from BAC; media and VIPs are going to be invited along to meet the Briggs brothers and Flewitt just a stone’s throw from The Quail. It puts BAC in exactly the right place and in front of exactly the right people for launching a single-seat plaything, which is important for a firm with ambitions for further growth in North America. We all love Liverpool, but it’s not exactly Carmel Valley in August.

BAC says the new car adheres to its ‘one-of-a-kind’ philosophy, so expect personalisation to be paramount. From the teaser, there’s a broadly familiar silhouette (as you'd expect from a new derivative) but there’s still an awful lot to find out. Which we’re very keen to - there really is nothing like a Mono. Just a shame we won’t see it at the ranch, really. Maybe next year, eh?

Not sure why, but I was expecting them to announce a 2 seater. Possibly a tandem configuration, similar to the LCC.

Still, a new BAC is exciting news.

Looks like a massive air intake on the drivers LH side?

Are you looking at the photos of the Mono, rather than the silhouette teaser of the new car at the top?

I love the mono, but it being, well, mono, makes it a deal breaker for me. A huge part of the appeal for me, of silly cars, is the ability to share the experience with someone else - and you can't do that with a Mono.

Ah, I didn't realise that was what it was. My initial comment was made the minute the article dropped and I'm sure that the only picture was the silhouette at that point, hense the big ears comment, so I assumed that the additional pictures were updates of the new car that were added when they had become available.

Who would bet against it being brilliant.
Will they branch out into a 2 seat at some point, in the meantime....

Given that they are basically selling to Private members racetracks in 'Murica where there are no limits. Here are the two things they need to have moved on from a Formula Ford for the road.

-Composite tub, the bloke from Mclaren hopefully has that ticked like its 1981.
-A small capacity V12 based off either a Yamaha YZF R6 or similar Squid engine that revs to 17,000rpm because everyone else has to take a passenger.

Actually had one of their first model drive past work today, presumably on its way to Goodwood for something. It looked and sounded amazing.

LOL! BAC TSR-2 is one of my favourite aircraft!
The new car is called the BAC DUO and seats two. It is an EV with prodigious performance, in-wheel motor at each corner, 120kwh battery, 0-60 in 1.2s, range = 2 flat-out laps of M25, all coming in under 500kg. I know this rumour is true because I started it myself!

It’ll be called the Duo & have 2 seats?

Or maybe it’ll be called the Zero and have no seats, and be AI driven

Good thinking there! hehe

On that basis, would a Cygnet have room for -1 people? After all, a cygnet is a minor swan. (say it fast!) getmecoat

I think that joke is likely to receive a negative response.

So after 15 years you get....

The same old Ford 4 pot..now from the outgoing Fiesta with a Turbo and a carbon intake.

If this doesn't come with a injection sticker, a Ghia trim package and the thinnest faux wood trim on the dash I will be disappointed.

I've got a good idea.. just you keep me near, I'll be so good for you
