Renewed Photocard Licence only 7 years to expiry = depressed

I've just received my new photocard licence (took all of three days from online application!), but have noticed that it expires in 2030 - and quite rightly as that's when I turn 70
I still remember receiving my first licence, with this expiry date, and thinking "how far off is that?"
It's ever so slightly depressing - making me wonder whether I'll actually make it to the next renewal
However, I do take comfort from the suspicion that I've lived through some of the best 'driving years' - but maybe everyone's thought that!
Can't say I'm looking forward to the 'Brave New World' of EVs - characterless laptops on wheels to my eyes - but maybe I'll be 'converted' in time. We'll see...
Nothing to fear about that. I still enjoy driving, I’m into my second renewal after 70.

Lots of people feel bad about getting old, however few seem to consider the alternative option to be preferable.
So I'd suggest celebrating the good times you've had, firstly.
Secondly, none of us know how long we'll be here, or how long we'll be permitted to drive while we are. So you could take this as a chance to consider if there are any affordable motoring experiences you haven't had, that you'd like to. Eg off-roading, or owning a two-seat convertible, or driving to the Arctic Circle / Equator / etc, or hitting v-max on the Autobahn, or whatever might take your fancy really. I.e. potentially think in terms of taking this as a nudge to have some fun experiences on four wheels now.

Assuming you buy brand new cars on a regular basis, by 2035 when your only choice will be electric, you will be 75. Not sure there will be many brand new cars needed after 75.Of course that assumes -
You actually buy brand new cars
The ban continues as planned and we don’t end up with E fuels and other options
You can still actually drive at that age
In all likelihood therefore the electric car change won’t affect you unless you let it. I don’t really know why anyone over 45 really gives a stuff about “the electric car” problem. Just continue to drive what you like and let everyone else crack on.
Research already shows us that the post millennial generation is far less interested in driving than we are, those born today will never drive a petrol car and anyone born from 2035 when the ban happens will probably never drive a car at all. The old adage of what you don’t have you don’t miss rings true.
Far too many people wasting energy and risking high blood pressure fighting against something that really doesn’t matter to them.
The only downside for us oldies is the value of any classic cars we have is likely to fall off a cliff around 2045
