Hi all,

Does anyone have experience of replacing privacy glass with clear glass and the cost associated?

My 2019 Mazda6 estate had them as standard and I really don't like them. I notice that Mazda did sell a handful of 'SE' 6 Estates in this country which didn't have privacy glass, would it be worth trying to find one that's being broken and take the glass from that?

Things I'd be worried about would be the DAB aerial which I think it housed in the rear window on mine, and also how well the rear windows would be sealed.

The heated rear and rear quarter glass will be bonded and encapsulated, so unless you are proficient with the removal of such glass you're not going to get it from a breaker.

Realistically you're looking at dealer parts or ordering through a glass replacement company.

You need to speak to Glassman on here, but I'd have thought you'd be better with new glass rather than trying to use glass from a breaker. By then, it would probably just be cheaper to sell your car and source one without privacy glass.

I built a camper earlier this year, to glaze the side sliding door was more expensive in a light green tint (to match the cab) than an 80% dark tint!

But at least I have the 'over my shoulder' view out that I needed for driving on the 'wrong' side of the road!

Guy who did the job for me said that I was the first person who had not settled for dark glass.
