Insurance pay out problems
Discussion
Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place.
Seeking some advice on how to deal with insurance company for best outcome.
My mother has had her car stolen off the driveway last week (Jaguar).
We have the usual crime reference number and put a claim in to the insurance.
The problem is when last years renewal quote came through it was exorbitantly higher then previous year.
Subsequently I told her to hunt around on the comparison sites as you do.
With her slow but passabe IT skills, she found a cheaper quote on a comparison site she hadnt used in a few years. Sadly, in error when insuring my father (additional driver), that driver profile (on this comparison site) hadnt been updated with 2 claims he had recently made (both total loss, one was when his car was parked and someone had driven into it, the other was the replacement temporary banger caught fire).
This oversight has caused a disproportionate penalisation from the insurance company (imo).
theyre saying the insurance premium shouldve been £2000 rather than the £800 she paid.
Subsequently will only be paying 33% of the cars value to her.
Is there any recourse on the matter?
Is it a case of contesting it with the insurance company or speaking directly with an ombudsman?
Thanks in advance for your views

Pay the £1200
That's not an option in cases like this.OP, an increase in premium from £800 to £2000 for disclosing 2 claims seems entirely possible. If they wanted to lie, they could have said they wouldn't have insured her at all with an additional driver with 2 claims and then they could have walked away from the claim.
But the should be paying you 40% of the value, as you paid 40% of the premium.

Agree with this to the OP, technically the information was inaccurate and they are allowing that correction whilst still agreeing to insure the parties involved, which is much better than other scenarios.OP, an increase in premium from £800 to £2000 for disclosing 2 claims seems entirely possible.
