Idly Googling for one of our old cars and found an article featuring it in a French magazine from 2019 - the photos show the car was on the road in France, still on its U.K. registration.

Looking at the MOT history, it’s last pass was 2010.

Can a U.K. car be used in France with no MOT? Presumably it wasn’t permanently exported to France for it to still be on U.K. plates? It was for sale with a French car dealer.

Not the most urgent question but has been bothering me today hehe

Tricky one.

If your residence is still in the UK. You are aloud to drive one year maximum on British plates without interruption.
Only thing is that if you drive back a few times a year to the UK , that make it very difficult for the police to apply that law as technically you left France so the countdown should start again from zero. (Vienna convention)

Not sure how that car has British plates after so long in France. If its still has British plates, it means the owner has been back to he UK, not sure how is has avoided the MOT in the UK when he drove back?

A lot of people don’t bother with the rules; I have done just what the OP describes in the past.

I also work a lot down near Malaga - there used to be loads of UK registered cars there that had plainly never been back to the uk, but the Spanish have cracked down. I dare say away from an enclave like that then not a lot of people will notice you.

It's most likely SORN too, since you can't buy VED without a MoT. Unless it's over 40 years old......
