Hi guys. Long shot here but I'm looking to find out where a vehicle I'm looking to buy, again, (purchased new in May 1967) had its last MOT carried out and all I have is the MOT number. Spotted some old posts that suggested this may be possible. Can anyone assist pse?

Yeah, clutching at straws but you never know. Ever the optimist!

The MOT location data is only available on the .gov online portal check with the current V5 reference number.

What you're trying to do OP, is one of the reasons the location information was removed as accessible data as part of the GDPR changes.

Thank you. I have already written to DVLA, utilising form V888 and have had a similar response, albeit about owner information rather than MOT location, back from them; which I accept and respect. What I cannot fathom is how knowing where a vehicle was last MOT'd is in any way a breach of those DP principles; all it does is let you know what part of the country the vehicle was last tested. Nothing about the owner. In this particular case, the vehicle is under SORN and last tested in March 2010. It could be anywhere now. My intention, were I able to determine the location where the vehicle was last tested, was to carry out local advertising via specialist clubs and other forms of media, putting my contact details out there (securely) to determine if there is any interest in selling the vehicle; this approach puts the onus on the owner to respond if there is interest there, or not if there is not; whatever the case may be. As I said in my original post, all of this is very much a long shot and I accept that. However, earlier posts on this forum suggested that this was possible and I want to explore every legal avenue in my search to enable me to put this to bed; one way or the other. I was eighteen when I bought the vehicle new in 1967, for the princely sum of £172 pounds 12 shillings and 6 pence including Purchase Tax, (now VAT). I am 74 now and would dearly love to recommission the vehicle and get it back to its original state. Sad I know, but there you go; nothing sinister in the request I assure you. Just a Petrol-Head wanting to revisit his youth.

As I said, you used to be able to find out the details you want. ( as backed up by previous postings you've found)

But they stopped the opportunity for people to contact the testing station, in order to find out owners details , phone number etc that they may have on record from the MOT booking.

It's no longer possible.

Understood and thank you. I'll try a national approach now then.

I suggest you wait a week or so, then re-post a new thread here on Pistonheads including the make, model and registration number in the thread title. There are some resourceful people on Pistonheads, and you may just be lucky. Also, anyone googling the registration number in the future may well find the thread and contact you.

I'm scratching my head trying to think which new car was as cheap as £172 pounds 12 shillings and 6 pence in 1967, something like a Bond Minicar perhaps?

I am not sure that is a good idea based on privacy laws.

Thank you all for your helpful advice, but as I say I'm keen to keep within the letter of the law and will advertise in national specialist media and via specialist clubs and hope that that approach will bear fruit. With regard to the question from RileyBlue, if I may explain. Whilst my distance driver is a Macan, my Sunday and sunny-day drive is a 911/964 C2 Coupe, with the daily hop around the city for more mundane tasks accomplished in an Abarth 595c, (great fun drive) interspersed with a few trips on a Vespa (even more fun but not quite as fast), my first love was not a car at all; it was in fact another scooter - a Lambretta SX150. It was the sixties after all! Extrapolating that purchase price forward to the price today would see that cost around £3872.00 - yet unsurprisingly, as with all classics, either four wheel or two, pristine original Italian examples are on sale for upwards of £14k today; crazy. Not that my intention would be to sell of course, but could, potentially, be one reason why it appears not to have seen the light of day since 2011 and at that point with only 970 miles on the clock, according to its last MOT; i.e. investment purposes.

Now I know that Piston Heads is very much car-orientated, so apologies if that offends any reader by being off-piste, as it were, but I am a regular reader of the forum and engaged (for the first time) on the back of previous comments that I'd seen - now helpfully discounted by current post readers.

I was closing in... I'd whittled it down from four wheels to three!

Why - zero reason why there would be an issue...
No issues under GDPR - what other laws do you consider might be a problem?

OP would be posting a vehicle / model / reg. plate - nothing confidential in that
If someone decided to post - that lives around the corner from me at xyz then I could see a possible issue - but that wouldn't be OP's issue all that is needed is for OP to ask anyone who knows to send him a PM and not publish precise location and you would have zero issues
