Ford Mondeo drivers airbag recall
Discussion
I had a letter from Ford UK stating that the airbag is faulty.
Its a Takata airbag but the recall is free of charge.
Had to check in yesterday at the local dealership and the amount of upselling was ridiculous as well as pricy - £35 for replacement front wiper blades amongst many more expensive service options.
What worries me more is the 'free health check' that I have declined via a comment box, will they still carry it out do you think?
I have my own independent mechanic that does all my servicing & check overs and will not entertain dealership costs on a 15 year old nearly 200K car.
What are the chances of them trying it on with a horror story and has anyone else had an experience good or bad?

Mrs Scrump’s Nissan went into the dealer for the airbag recall, came back without any extra work recommended or undertaken.
Scrumplet the elder’s Peugeot 107 went into the dealer for a recall on the rear windows. They did a free health check and sent me a video of it. They couldn’t find anything else that needed doing!

We had a recall done on our 8 year old Mercedes. They cleaned it inside and out for free, I guess they didn't want a dirty C Class sat in their forecourt. I'm hoping for another recall as it's looking filthy again.
I was happy when they did my 2009 W169 as I got a newer style centre boss. They said it was one of the best condition they had seen too which was nice. While waiting I watched YouTube about the Takata scandal and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Possibly of shrapnel flying at you like a bloody artillery shell, nasty. I wasn't embarrassed to take it there, it's a real Mercedes through and through. It's the Renault/Nissan A class that should be embarrassed. She is laid up at the moment and it's just that moist condition that affected the airbags I believe, MB were one of the last to issue a recall which was disappointing. My daily driver is over 20 years old and it makes me wonder how the airbags and tensioners will behave if the worst was to happen.

A fellow in Sydney (Australia) had a fender-bender in his old Honda CRV which was enough to trigger the drivers airbag. The shrapnel sliced his neck enough that he bled out at the scene: https://www.drive.com.au/news/more-than-1-million-...She is laid up at the moment and it's just that moist condition that affected the airbags I believe, MB were one of the last to issue a recall which was disappointing. Pyrotechnics in safety systems might yet be the thing which removes a lot of "old" cars from the road. As these airbag recalls were being done here in Australia some importers and dealers were pushing to pay out people for their cars (usually less than the cost of the airbag replacement....) or were trying various high pressure tactics to make a sale on a new(er) replacement vehicle when the customer had brought their car in for the recall work.
