I'm stuck in a circle on the Gov website! I SORNed the car a couple of days ago, but I might actually use it tomorrow/this weekend. Going through the process online it just says that a successful application was already submitted in the last 5 days and that's it?!

Any idea what I do if I want to tax it again?

Can you still do it in a post office?

Can you not simply renew the VED?

How would I do that? I did the usual "tax my car online" thing and it just gave me the message that an application had already been submitted, but that was my SORN

It's getting there that's the problem today

And at this stage I just wanted to remind myself how much it was going to cost as I would only tax for October then cancel it and get refunded the 5 months. But cant' remember how much the tax is, so not sure it's worth it.

Post Office is only option if you're within the 5 days. Top tip for future... don't SORN your car at the start of a month, you're going to be paying for October twice!

Ah if it ran out then you're probably ok. When you SORN you only get refunded for full months remaining.

Ah yes I'm with you, I only tax it 6 months of the year, being the summer car. But this weekend is looking amazing so pondering taxing for October.

If it was me, I'd make sure it was insured and then use it over the weekend / next few days. I'd also take a screenshot / photo of your attempt to tax it and have that in the event that you stopped for no tax...

Of course I wouldn't advocate not taxing it....https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/2.gif

There's definitely logic there. Sadly the person I might have driven to see is now busy so it's looking like it will make it onto my driveway to be cleaned then put back to bed for 6 months.

You paid 10% more than necessary anyway by buying 6 months VED. If you buy it for 12 months, and then declare it SORN for the winter (I do this), you get refunded pro rate. If you buy only 6 month, they don't refund the 10% premium. frown

Thy were also forecasting the upcoming warm spell as far back as the 30th Sept, which is why I didn't cash in the VED on my motorcycle. smile

Now that is clever thinking that would never have occurred to me!

That might work if weren't for the fact that when you SORN your car online it tells you that if you need to tax it in the next 5 days you cant do it online.

OP- off to the post office if you want to tax it

Fair enough, didn't know that was the case. Good to know for future though, doubt I'll be doing it this time.
