Having driven cars around for months without tax (by mistake) - I'd say you have nothing to worry about

To AND from a pre-booked MOT.

You did go to and from a pre-booked MOT. You just didn’t stop…

Hey all,

I have an electric car which is SORN with no MOT, and to tax it (which is £0) I need an MOT, hence I booked one and upon driving towards the garage, my range dropped significantly and I turned back home to recharge the car.

I'm aware that I am allowed to drive a SORN car to an MOT appointment. However, I have concerns about potential issues with ANPR cameras fines by post. I'm curious about the likelihood of successfully appealing any such fine. To clarify, while I did have a prebooked MOT appointment, I drove part of the way to the garage but ultimately did not reach the destination and instead returned home. What are my chances of a successful appeal in this situation?
Not sure but if they decided to take it up with the mot station direct, they will no doubt have to tell them you never attended and cancelled the booking by phone, plus as its all electronic, they will not be any record of your car actually being MOTd, pass or fail.

I’ve just spent two years driving a car that wasn’t showing as having an MOT!

I took it for an MOT last month and when I said to the tester that it still had 20ish days left on the current one he checked and said it’s not showing having had any MOT ever!

Sure enough shown on DVLA site as NO MOT

Problem is I have all its MOT’s and I’ve owned the car from new and personally took the cars for their tests

I had its current MOT with me and showed it him and he was as baffled as me

He MOT’d it and it’s now showing MOT’d from the date he did the test but nothing before

I’ve written to the DVLA to try and sort it out

It’s bizarre but in the last two years I’ve never been stopped nor had an automatic fine

Considering people are going about their business without MOTs all over the place and no doubt insurance as well, I really wouldn't worry. You'll have the MOT booked on a system somewhere but an ANPR probably wouldn't know that either, but you'd be able to prove the booking.

I really wouldn't worry OP.

And the garage could prove it was cancelled and no history of the car being tested on that date.

For all we know, the op might have booked an mot, jollied around for the day and then cancelled it.

But as has been mentioned, the chances of being caught are fairly slim.

I assume you know that's not the DVLA database? I use 3rd party apps myself sometimes, but it may be worth checking here:

I recently sorned my electric car as I travelled, but I'm now back and to un-sorn it, I need to tax it which is £0, however, I've also run out of MOT so I'm aware I can drive the car to a pre-booked MOT appointment whilst sorned.

My worry is that I have missed 3 MOT appointments by arriving late, mainly because of work meetings. I know this sounds bizarre but I'm worried if an ANPR camera picked up the car being driven on SORN how could I explain to DVLA that I missed 3 MOT appointments even though I prebooked MOT appointments for the dates? Should I be worried?

Youve been late for three mots with your sorn car because work meetings? So you went to work meetings but not in the sorn car, then went home to get the sorn car to take to mot but looked at clock, realised you couldn't make it on time so didn't bother driving there?
Or you've driven to meetings in sorn car but booked MOT to cover yourself?

I work from home and I booked these MOT weeks apart and missed them. I have got zero reasons to drive the car untaxed as the car tax is free, I just need an MOT plus I have another car which I use anyway, the first 2 I missed and the last one I had to turn back as my range dropped. I wish I was making this up but it is what it is, I just hope I won't get into trouble

There is no central register of Mot bookings so nobody at DVLA is watching that.

My biggest concern would be the garage/garages trying to recoup their loss and finding a reason to fail you in order to do so...

Yep. OP has even gone back in earlier this evening and deleted their post(s) in that thread in the hope that would make that thread go away wobble

Why post this again OP? You could have just bumped the original thread? Did the answers in that thread not suit the reply you were after & you thought this one would go differently?

How far away is the garage that your range dropped and you couldn’t reach it? Sorry sounds quite bizzare - is this a wind up?
