Not sure if this is a GG / finance / car buying question...

I'm starting to look at options to replace my wife's car and I've seen a few Jap import Golfs (for example). Just ordinary cars, 1.4tsi, non high performance, but they appear in excellent order and a possibility.

My primary concern is insuring it. Do insurance companies load the premium for these things even though they're non exotic and the same as what we get here anyway? Anyone got any first hand experiences?

Easy way to find out. Get a registration number for one and for a standard car the same and run them through the likes of compare the market

My import R32 Golf was around £150 more to insure versus a UK car. Which given the benefits of it being lower mileage, better condition, cheaper road tax and rust free versus UK cars is a small price to pay.
