Oh no, there's a gritter in the distance ahead...
Discussion
Ok, It's that time of year.

You're on the motorway and start to notice that the traffic's getting denser and bunching up, yellow lights appear in the distance ahead, oh no! it's a gritter travelling in the same direction as you.
Middle lane, no chance of using a poor sap to 'shield' your pride and joy.
You're in a low car, It's a 'daily' but a very nice one, Porsche, sporty Merc/Audi/BMW etc.
What do you do... once your heart rate settles again...
Get it over with and listen to the machine gun fire to your car?
Slow to 45mph and wait it out whilst others assume you're an idiot, until the gritter turns off in 60 miles?
Slow as above, turn off at the first opportunity and maybe add 2 hours to your journey?

What do you do? Run a shed in the winter
Yep we can all afford to run an extra car for the few days over winter where we might encounter a gritter....
Yeah I hate it too. I have two old cars, might be described as "sheds / snotters" (what a horrible expression BTW), doesn't mean I want either of them machine gunned with grit.
I just "grit" my teeth and blast past in one movement, on a slight left-hander if possible.

Daily a Panamera - drive an SLS also, and in the winter. So applies to both.
I just blast through. Panamera is not PPF'd, SLS is. Not bothered with the PPF on the car. Without, the Panamera is fine - it's a daily, it's gonna get nicks and such - this is life.

My Range Rover gets a proper polish, paint correction & ceramic coat in the spring after winter has done it’s worst.
Yes it will deteriorate but this hopefully slows it.
If I had something classic or very nice I’d not take it out when salty.

Yep, same, after winter the ceramic coat is "refurbished"My Range Rover gets a proper polish, paint correction & ceramic coat in the spring after winter has done it’s worst.

I know it isn't PPF, but I applied the same to my other cars and they really only needed a bit of touch up totalling less than £1k all said and done after 4-5 winters, and that was only to achieve "perfection", it was more or less not noticable to the naked eye unless you were 30-40cm away.

Came across one on the M1 last night, surprised at the amount of vehicles hanging around its immediate vicinity, seemingly clueless about to tackle the big spitting orange flashy thing. By far the worst was a Focus, maybe 2 car lengths behind it and refusing to move out into clean air... bonkers.

I know someone who was seriously unhappy with the company car they were given, they were running a Jag on their own coin & charging mileage and their boss ‘made’ them have a company car, Renault Laguna IIRC.They would have done this.
It got (ab)used for everything.
Festivals.
Trips to the tip, beach, etc.
Lent out, used to carry all manner of crap.
Taken weekly to the scratchiest oldest car wash in the district so it appeared spotless from a distance.
Tailgated aggregate trucks.
Speeding on loose chippings.
I actually felt sorry for the car, best bit was it would not die!
