One-of-25 Audi RS4 (B8) Nogaro for sale
There was only one colour that could celebrate the RS2 - good job it suited the RS4 just as well

Those of us less enthusiastic about the festive period will already be looking ahead to 2024 and the promise of a new year. No doubt there will be plenty of automotive anniversaries to celebrate over the next 12 (and a bit) months, so here’s one to kick things off early: the Audi RS2 is 30 years old in 2024.
We won’t dwell on that car for long - heaven knows we’ve all heard enough about the Porsche-fettled 80 Avant for a good while yet - but instead focus on the anniversary. Will it be marked by Audi? Probably not. The RS2’s distant descendent, the B9 RS4, will be out of production soon, and it’s already had its end-of-the-line special edition in the shape of the impressive Competition. With Audi charging ahead (no pun intended) towards the electrified future, looking back on a five-cylinder cult curio seems unlikely.
How different things were not so long ago. In 2014, to mark 20 years of the RS2, Audi launched something called the RS4 Nogaro at that year’s Geneva motor show. It very much did as it said on the tin: the Nogaro was a B8 RS4 painted in Nogaro Blue, with even more of it inside. The special edition was also treated to additional carbon, red brake calipers and the 174mph delimit as standard. A simpler time.

Back then the Nogaro almost felt like a missed opportunity to really sign the B8 off in style, ramp up the attitude for a car that had never been quite as loved as its predecessor. A nice thing to look at, but little more. Now, with just 25 allocated to the UK right at the end of the production run, it surely represents one of the more appealing ways into that sublime powertrain.
The B8 was better to drive than you’ve heard, and this Nogaro benefits from the sport differential as well. Though replacing this high revving, less torquey V8 with a twin-turbo V6 made complete sense given the RS4’s remit, these old ones - complete with a DCT, don’t forget, where later cars were torque converter autos - feel rather more special now. It seems crazy to use the term ‘modern classic’ for a car on a 64-plate, but consider how fast we’ve moved away from ideas as wonderfully daft as 8,500rpm estates.
This Nogaro has been kept busy, with basically an owner a year from new and 66,000 miles recorded. These V8s have never been cheap to run, so perhaps the reality of RS4 life bit a little too hard for some of them. Despite that, it looks brilliant, particularly that very special paint. Some of the interior has inevitably faded a little, though that could surely be remedied. With so few ever available in the UK, those keen on a Nogaro RS4 (it’s not hard to see why) aren’t exactly spoilt for choice - this is the only one of its kind currently on PH. Do your history checks, try to negotiate as much free super unleaded into the deal as possible, and enjoy - any more RS2 tribute acts look very unlikely now.

Great cars.
Do these engines need de-coking like their predecessor?
beautiful looking exterior though with an exquisite colour to match. I drove one when it was near new and it was quite a thing, I preferred the E90 M3 I had at the time but these felt like a big leap forward from the B7
I’m not sure why there’s so much negativity on the interior, it’s a classic combination with the noggy blue paint as far back as the RS2. Far nicer than boring black.
SV car, so supplied by Aberdeen Audi new, at the time the top selling Audi dealer in the UK
A colleague has silver one with the buckets and it looks fab, bit of a Q car in the modern world of wings and carbon everything.
Great cars.
Did look good though
Great cars.
The V6 is better at literally every point in the rev range. The V8 felt like you really had to kick its arse to get it to go anywhere, and even then it didn't seem to go anywhere quickly, despite having the same headline power output.
Great noise though.

Took it back to Audi who scanned it and looked over everything, came back with try it now sir, should be much better. No difference so it went back again, same thing again and the third time he handed it over he asked them not to call him until it was at least above 400 bhp.
A couple of weeks went by before they called and said they'd done all that they could.
Didn't feel any quicker and i think it had something like 5-8 bhp more on the rolling road.
Straight back to Audi,a loooong time later they offered to buy the car back but he had to sign some paperwork to basically stay silent about the whole thing. As much as he liked the car otherwise,he was just happy to be out of it.
Apparently the optimistic power claims on these are well known.
I rather like the spec - but then I'm a sucker for a bit of Nogaro

Agree that the seats are a bit meh, but I'll be honest I'd much prefer this with the standard chrome fixings and silver wheels. In this colour it almost looks unfinished without the brightwork.
30 grand doesnt seem too bad considering it being a special edition but think stuff like this is in for a pasting price wise, its an enthusiast car but not rich enthusiast, its special but not that special as its basically just been painted blue, has some blue sued and carbon bits.
I think as a package these are fantastic, but the VED and thirst maybe a bit wearing, and they arent all that fast in the scheme of things nowadays but if you can afford to run it and not fret about it, a lovely thing to own, and very useful. Wonder if these are still a theft magnet like newer RS Audis ?
