Whistleblower Says "They Want To Stop You Driving Older Cars"

Whether you believe this guy is up to you. The technology he says that can do this is already here. It just needs putting all together and implemented. I'm on the side that it will be implemented in some way because it will make roads safer (apparently). What is certain, is the vehicle insurance industry would love to have a reactive insurance charging facility.

A few quid and dodgy dan will have it firing up reading zero alcohol, telling them your doing limit and still traveling safely when your back home all snug, or not even out at night for about 100 quid.

Baloney. A classic car is generally a much lower risk
If there is money to be made, someone will insure it.

I might make some nonsense up and post it to him though, see if he makes a video.

Insurers insure cars because they can make a profit from it. How is that going to change?

This is the paper on the possibilities of advancing black box rollout. There's no whistleblower just a prankster taking one of those documents and claiming it's about something it isn't. Mind you, he claims to work in IT so may not be a prankster just have the usual tenuous grip on reality of a lonely bloke who still lives with mother.

Plus, Europeans are much safer since 2017 as the country that historically made the most frequent and insane proposals to infringe civil liberties has left. Unfortunately for the people in that particular country they no longer have 26 other countries to protect them from the fking lunatics by saying no. biggrin

The days of freedom to enjoy the roads have gone. Here's the latest for Essex.

Essex: new 20mph policy for residential and school roads

https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/21741943.essex-new-20m...

At the moment, this has been knocked on the head, but ..................................?

Plan for 20mph speed limit on every residential street in Essex fails

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/plan-for-20mph...

Monitoring the behavior of vehicles in motion is here though, so I'm dam sure it will eventually be used to extract money from your pockets. Hopefully, there will be an insurance company happy to keep the classic cars on the road.

to be fair I suspect that the powers that be would prefer it if they could get away with stopping us from driving full stop let alone older cars...

It was one of the benefits of the EU in that they really did prevent some of the utter lunacy that control freaks in Westminster desired to foist on the people.

That aside, while there will be a few rabid loons who see cars as an oppression of the people and equality can only exist if everyone is on a push bike, carrying a little red book and dissenters are executed, in reality it has more to do with total control rather than banning driving. Being able to dictate how, where and when people move is seen by some as a benefit, mainly for taxation.

However, this particular tale emanates not from any government but a corporate entity that like all corporates will run feasibility studies to try and find competitive advantages for greater profit. In this case it was just theorising whether pushing out black boxes to all customers and charging them based on usage would be better or worse than charging flat annual fees based on some statistics.

Wasn't E10 petrol a way for "them" to get older cars off the road?
