Manhart announces unique 650hp Range Rover

More opulent Range Rovers will surely follow from the factory - one Manhart customer couldn't wait

When so many Range Rovers seem to reach customers looking the same - grey with black, or green with cream for those that like to think they’re interesting - it’s refreshing to see a spec that really is something a bit different. Even if it’s not necessarily to all tastes…

This is the Manhart RV 650 Edition 01/01, a bespoke build from the German tuning company based on a P530 for ‘an individualistic customer from Eastern Europe’. Naturally, it’s got more power - now 653hp from the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, with 664lb ft - and it’s kitted out in black and gold outside, but the real changes are to be found inside the Range Rover.

‘Even unusual design requests are no problem at all’, says Manhart. ‘The latest creation presented here is undoubtedly one such project’. You don’t say. The interior has been retrimmed in Bordeaux Red with - there’s no other way to say this - even more gold. So there will be no mistaking this for any other Range around. It’s everywhere, too: seat, dash, wheel, ventilation controls, gearshift paddles. Spectacular, that’s for sure, and quite the demonstration of what Manhart is capable of. The customer is always right, after all.

Additional upgrades for the 650 Edition include new Manhart 24-inch wheels in a colour scheme you can guess plus a new sports exhaust with four 100mm tailpipes. It’s so rude, in fact, that it doesn’t get TÜV approval, so can only be exported anyway. The Manhart Range Rover is going to make an impact wherever it goes, basically - even when it's not moving.

Though this exact specification will remain unique to the Edition 01/01, there are individual Manhart parts available for those who feel their L460 needs a bit of optimisation. The air suspension can be dropped by 30mm for another few hundred euros, and the forged wheels seen here are on offer for €11k.

Somewhere in the middle sits the MHTronik Powerbox at €5,775, for those that fancy a more subdued spec with more than 650hp. Just the thing to pep up this SV Constellation Blue one…

The gold doesn't really work. In a decent colour it would look nice.

Dare say if the gold was silver instead, it wouldn't be the most offensive thing in the world.

But nothing says 'bespoke craftsmanship' like taking photos of your work in front of some old garages and a grotty container.

At least you wouldn't care. Maybe that's the point?

It's going straight in the grotty container and bypassing the 1st owner before being shipped to Albania much like many new Rangeys! ;-p

Gold and black pass on this and rather have a Lotus in JPS livery.

Before reading the comments I thought "how many posts in until someone mentions theft or insurance?". And there it was, yours. Nothing to say about the actual car then?

My opinion - you can't buy taste (apparently). Not a fan at all. Give me a factory Range Rover with a light interior of this any day.

It's all hideous, but this is the worst part.

I'd rather have the Hennessey Mammoth 900.

Am thinking that may have been commissioned by someone from a different culture where loads of gold is considered differently to in the UK, we need to realise that not everyone wants their cars in something from the Farrow and Ball colour chart, we think this looks a bit gash, suspect other groups wonder why we like such dull colours ?

Lose the awful Halfords lights, remove all the gold outside except the mid stripe and the bonnet decal. Extend the mid stripe to run from the bonnet the whole length of the side. Would look a million times better.

I'm still of two minds as to whether I like the interior, again I think they've just gone a touch overboard with the gold. Love the burgundy colour of the leather.

That's quite a deliberate tactic in car photography - put the car in front of grim stuff and it helps to draw your eyes to the car. Obviously cars can look great in front of a spectacular scenic background too, but they can also get lost, as the viewer spends more time looking at the background than the car.

Quite. I don't think people realise how different tastes can be in other countries. In the Middle East, loads of stuff isn't even available with a black interior for example, as people prefer different colours.

fk me - someone pass the eye bleach!

I remember the days when owning a Range Rover was a sign of class and sophistication. Seems they're long gone now.

Exactly. Perhaps for someone who liked JPS cigarette liveried racing cars back in the day.
