Hi all

I had an accident at the end of October and my Discovery has been in for repair since mid-November. I've had a hire car from enterprise for a few weeks and unfortunately I got a chip in the windscreen which i got away with (there's another thread on that form yesterday!)

I had to swap out the car yesterday as Enteprise wanted the other one back (being sold ay EoY) and they out me into another car. This time a small Merc GLA.

I was offered additional CDW at £7 per day and because of the lucky escape with the windscreen damage on the other car, I decided to take it. Spoke to the repairer this morning and their estimated completion of 2nd January has now changed to "awaiting a part, at least a couple of weeks".

Since it seems I could be in for a longer wait and potentially a couple of hundred quid in optional CDW charges, I just wanted to know if anyone has experience of claiming back their CDW after the fact?

Seems unlikely. Would be not that dissimilar to claiming for fuel for the hire car.

If you didn't take CDW, the third party in the original claim wouldn't be liable for damage caused to your rental.

But if I didn’t have an accident, I wouldn’t be in a rental facing punitive excesses for damage? And for minor damage to my own car, I’d have the option of leaving alone or self fixing?

But if you didn't have your accident, and if your own car was damaged you do have the choice to leave it or repair it. When you come to sell it it will be worth less if its damaged and you haven't repaired it.
I worked reclaiming uninsured losses for 10 years, you can't claim for CDW.

Isn't the Enterprise Hire Car hired to you under the same insurance terms as your own insurers?

We had a hire car earlier this year, third party insurers did it directly with us and we had to provide an insurance cert at time of rental and all excesses were the same as our insurance
