I've been looking through Autotrader.

Maybe its rose-tinted nostalgia (my dad had 2 Rovers from 1997 to 2003)
Maybe I've got a radar for misunderstood cars
Or maybe I've lost my mind at 36 and beginning to lose sense of what is "cool"

But look at this!

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202308301...

Shouldn't like it, but I do. V6, low miles, leather interior, I even like the colour!

I then went further down the rabbit hole... and did not like where I ended up...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202308221...

I know they were rated inferior to the Mondeo at the time, but I think its actually quite a handsome car. Small compared to most cars nowadays, and clean lines

What other cars do you like (that you get told you shouldn't)?

The Rover looks ok but that place sells some absolute scensoredt for quite steep prices, and of course with ‘no comebacks’…

Prefer a 75 though, and probably a tourer diesel, which is definitely something we shouldn’t like these days! laugh

I really liked the 75 when it was new. I really wanted one as a company car, because they were cool.

I've aways liked the look of the first year Edsel wagons. I don't think the design works as well on the sedans and the coupes though.

Love both of them, I’ve often said before that I generally really dislike most Vauxhalls when they are launched and then really grow into the design and this is no different.

Audi A2 or a Panda 100hp, love them..

I once bought a Toyota Carina II 1600 in white with blue velour interior. With 101k on the clock, it still drove as good as new. When I put it up for sale, I had loads of buyers.

Great cars. Like this 1990 and the 70s one too

R8 generation Rover 200s. It seems people have become a bit more keen on them in the last few years, but I always had a bit of a sift spot for them even when they were regarded with the full saddest-of-the-sad Werther's Original and comfy slippers image.

Always felt that in comparison to what other manufacturers were kicking around when they came out in 1989 (mk4 Escort, mk2 Astra, mk2 Golf) they were a noticeably more modern/refined effort, particularly with the Honda engined version.

Also Vauxhall Fronteras. Actually quite a decent rufty-tufty "proper" separate chassis 4x4 beneath the very early 90s Celsea tractor SUV boom bandwagon jumping, just a pity they were so woefully nailed together.

My parents have had a diesel 75 Tourer for the last 7 years, we maintain and repair it as there's almost nothing out there that offers the same blend of what it has. Very hard to pinpoint but it just does its job so impeccably well. Comfortable, frugal, reliable and cheap to maintain.

I did over 80k miles in a Juke Nismo RS. It wasn't my first choice but they offered me a great trade in on a very unreliable Megane 275 Cup S. It was a brilliant (if deeply flawed) car that I will defend to the hilt!

Jaguar x type, estate with the 2.2 diesel (mine was in ultra violet, sport)

I loved that car, but hated the useless dealers...

Jaguar S type, cosmetically challenged but a comfy old bus that doesn't attract a second glance.

Got a real hankering for a Fiat Coupe 20VT. And a Lotus Elan M100. And my other half won't STFU about a Toyota Blademaster G.They've all got bad news written all over them for various reasons.

You should always buy what you fancy and not worry about thoughts of cool or indeed what others think at all.

That said, those Autotrader examples do seem a bit 40watt.
Perhaps a bit more quirk?

MK 1 TT. Can’t stop thinking about them since being a little kid. Not the best car, not the most fun, not the most reliable but I always have them in the back of my mind.

Also quite like the Audi S1 as it’s small and quick around the town with good grip so on paper the ideal little daily. S3 feels like a better buy on paper but my heart says S1

BMW 7series E38 fantastic looking car, would love one with any of the more powerful engines, I’ve no idea if it’s a good car just always thought it looked tremendous.

Nissan Cube

A couple of people on here have owned them and they didn't rate them in the slightest but I'd still quite like one.

I know I’d look like a scrap dealer, but the yearning for one is strong…
