Why not just sorn it at the end of the month?

Unless i am missing something.

SORN takes effect from the day to complete the task. So if you SORNed your car today, from now on your car is not taxed.

If you want it to take effect from 31st Jan, then you need to declare it SORNed on that day.

A happy new year to you to

some info here

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/dvla-busts-9-my...

as far as im aware when you SORN you automatically get a refund of any full months tax left , however if your car is currently taxed Jan 2nd and you SORN it , it would remove the tax status and you would lose a refund as we are already into jan

to tax it again you would have to apply on line again as the system would show it as SORN

Its going to cost you for a months tax if you take it out of SORN cant you leave it taxed and SORN from 1st Feb

You can SORN up to 2 months in advance. So you can SORN today for it to start from Jan 31st and still drive it until the 31st.

If this is the 5 year surcharge for "cars that were very expensive back in 2016 that hasn't moved since", doesn't it reduce automatically at the end of the period to the standard £180?
