Queen Elizabeth II's Range Rover for sale

The Mulsanne was great - this might be even better

Remember the Queen’s Bentley? Back in 2021, the Barnato Green Mulsanne formerly owned by HRH was for sale, and jolly nice it looked as well with its Twine main leather, Burr Walnut and minimal mileage. It was expensive, sure, though not for sale long; the spec was desirable enough already, even without the royal connection.

Of course, it was mostly thanks to that connection it turned out to be one of the most-read stories of that year (doubtless interest on social media had something to do with that) although now we get the chance to see what extent the nation's affection for green Bentleys played a part. Because the same dealer has struck gold again: behold, a Royal Household Range Rover for sale.

Like the Mulsanne, this SDV8 Autobiography comes in a fantastic specification. You’ll seldom go wrong with blue over cream, and it works a treat on a long-wheelbase Range Rover, particularly with clear glass and reasonably modest wheels. It’s a smart spec rather than an attention-grabbing one, which is nice to see on a fairly modern R-R. Furthermore, while some of the modifications made at the Land Rover Workshop for the late Queen have been removed (the side steps and the siren), the grab handles that were fitted are still with the car. As is the warning about the siren under the bonnet. Otherwise, it’s just another old diesel Range Rover, right?

Sparingly used on Royal duties, covering 2,586 miles in a couple of years of service before being sold in the LR dealer network. The Range Rover is now on 18k, which is still not very much for a 2016 car; given the provenance and the price that must have been paid (more on that in a sec), it’s easy to understand not subjecting the Range to hard miles. While bits of the L405 era look a tad old now with the new model well-established, it presents pretty flawlessly.

Speaking of old, perhaps the most famous appearance of this car was transporting the Obamas at Windsor Castle on a state visit in April 2016. Back then it was only a month or so old - what a way to show off your new Range Rover. Amazing, too, to think that was less than eight years ago. Quite a bit has changed since then.

What’s no different, however, is the lasting fondness for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Accordingly, the next owner of this Range will have to be a very wealthy fan of the Royal family, as the SDV8 is for sale at £224,850. A car with comparable mileage and spec but without any regal link would be a chunk less than £50k. Still, as with the Mulsanne, it likely won’t be around long. There's not another like it - and won't be ever again.

Nothing cooler than something owned by her maj, saying that I’d love a car that was owned by a famous driver or whatever-especially if they’d done some serious miles in it.

Assuming the price for a normal one is about is about £34k that's £190k for bragging rights. The Bentley was a one off, a unique vehicle. This isn't.

Bizarre someone would pay that.

On one level it does look like you're paying £190k for a bit of paper but there are enough minted royalists around to guarantee that value and maybe a lot more as time passes. You could put loads of miles on it and it wouldn't affect it. Could actually be a cheap motor.

Someone paid £78,000 for Kate’s crusty old MK4 Golf, so anything is possible.

I don't think it ever was in the network. Quick Google suggests Bramley Motors had it up in 2018 for £120K or £130K.

Press articles at the time say it was Prince Philip's car. I can't imagine either of their names ever appeared on the V5C.

£224,000. Blimey.

Mind you, someone paid nearly £1m for a black dress once worn by Princess Diana, so it’s sort of a bargain.

At least you can drive this to Sainsbury’s.

Interesting that the Obamas travelled in it… I know the US secret service are very particular about the POTUSs fingerprints and DNA falling into the wrong hands, to the point of destroying glasses etc that he’s touched when out and about.

How f*cking much?!

I know there's Bramley Tax involved, but that is quite frankly ludicrous

Well it was more expensive than I thought it would be as an approved vehicle!

Aspirant’s nirvana x2.
Nice colour combo, mind.
Another toe-curlingly obsequious ad from Bramley – coming up next, bile.
They really, really need to be Fonejackered:

Always wonder how this dealer manages to cram his cars into that small forecourt for photographing?!
